Meanwhile, it was about 60 degrees out up here in NH yesterday, and it's already up to 49 today.

When I first moved to Seattle, in 1990, they got 2" of snow one day and the city was paralyzed. People were driving around with chains on their tires. Of course, it's a hilly city, so any level of ice does make it hard to get around. I think they bought their first two snowplows in 1994, after I had moved away.

Dude... '93 or '94... I know I was still in high school... there were snow flurries in the afternoon between 3 and 5 PM which counts as daylight in Houston.
Now I am off to go hunt down some dinner and beer. I am not looking forward to having to go into work tonight in the snow. Sigh... justice does not take snow days.

Snow is great. I bought a Saab last year, because I got sick of taking my life into my hands in my Saturn coupe. Having to be in to work at 7am regardless of weather* makes for a fair number of snowy drives.
(*If the police pull us over, we advise them that we work in emergency services.)

About 12yrs ago I lived in Louisiana the coldest it got was 29F. Never saw snow when I lived there for 3yrs. About 10yrs ago I was in Dallas for 2 weeks for a factory school for work. It snowed, just a dusting, a fellow classmate & native of Slidell Louisiana. came to my hotel room scared & shaking begging me to car-pool to class.(being I live in PA) I insisted on driving his rental. His company rented him a Cadillac. My company rented me a Hyundai "accident". For me the drive was uneventful accept the 3 4x4's on their roofs on the side of the highway on the way to class. LOL

Haha, wimps. We've already got 2 inches where I'm at (though the snow is late this year). When I was a wee little lad I remember going to my aunt and uncles on halloween and being pulled behind the snowmobile on sleds and then after dinner going trick or treating.
Minnesota will probably end up with at least 2 feet over the course of the next 3-4 months and by january we'll start seeing daytime highs in the negative Fahrenheit temps.
Last January we had a 8 day stretch where it averaged -40F not factoring in the wind. Sometimes wind chills would drop it to -70F. Cold enough to frostbite exposed skin in less than a minute.

Well... the snow is over, and it is just ball freezingly cold (for houston), and I have to go to work in it. The bus better not be late. I live in a tropical climate for a reason!

I bailed at lunch time. Had to take cab to the park and ride. Nothing like trying to drive in snow then hail and having a conversation with someone from a cold in another country (by having a conversation I mean trying to explain for the third time why Propylene Industry is Best Industry and it would be helpful if the READ THE FREEKING CRAP I SENT THEM A WEEK AGO. )
