Under the couch

Models are not 'in play' until they're actually on the table. So abilities of models in Reserve can not be used. You'll need to wait until they arrive.

Hmmm... was this discussed before? I thought the consensus was that advisors did, in fact, convey their benefits without being on the table yet. IIRC the argument was based on an Eldar piece of wargear that worked the same way.

I'll have to try and find the previous thread.

If you're thinking of the Autarch's ability to add to the Reserve roll, it actually specifies in his entry that it applies whether or not he is on the board.

The Astropah's entry contains no such statement.

The Astropath's rule states as long as "he is alive". Not in play doesn't mean he is dead. Thus, he is still alive until killed.
