I'm gonna model a unit of Kroots on - well, on mopeds in the near future and I was wondering what people thought of the idea of Kroots on vehicles.

I peeked at a few of the different armies biker rules to see if there was anything that might resemble the idea, and I found the Eldar Shining Spears... I think. With a lowered cover save or something to represent the smaller ride. A lower top speed too maybe, but they could be suped-up mopeds. The special rules for the shining spears are what really sold me on the idea, they can ride through terrain without worry and they can effectively dodge bullets, by weaving back and forth.

The plan is for the moped gang to be auxiliary support for a Blood Axe Big mek. They traded their services for the mopeds that the big mek made especially for them. The two got along well enough because the Kroot are such voracious eaters.

Oh, and they will be getting a few more Tau weapons than usual.

I'm looking for input on this, so if you have any ideas about this, better biker rules or something, or if you don't think this will fly, let me know. Thanks, Dakka.

Why don't you make em riding krootox or sumthin. I don't think that mopeds would suit the kroot.

...tanks from the 23rd and 48th batallion were flanked by tanks from the enemies' 56th batallion. It was then that General Smedfordshire revealed his secret weapon: a slightly larger tank.

I was thinking about having a couple on krootox, or having krootox in the unit as pack animals, but mostly because I think the FW pack krootox are amazing.

just a little background:
I'm working on a truck stop themed ork army, the leader of which is a blood axe so I figured he would hire some outside help, as the blood axes are in the minority in the army.

As an auxiliary support unit, I thought mopeds would be a fun unit, a mod squad. My first thought was IG bikers, but it seemed too unlikely for mopeds to be running with some of the heaver support vehicles that I want the IG bring to the shop.

Also, I really like some of the Tau vehicels too.

I think given the scouting, ahead of the pack nature of Kroot would dictate a more dirt bike or scout bike look for them, rather than a "zippy" moped.

IIRC arent kroot feral creatures?? That would be weird. Like a badger riding a moped. conversion idea!

I like the idea of calvary kroot though.

Kroot are intelligent and technical enough to build and run their own starships. They live in a state of relative primitivism because they enjoy the lifestyle.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I was thinking about this myself recently, there aren't many bikes at all in the Tau army, it's not that they couldn't build the bikes (or that the kroot couldn't) they just don't seem to fit.

A bike is a loud noisy thing that outputs lots of smoke, even a jetbike is probably pretty loud, so Kroot, stalkers hunters and infiltraters, would have no use for one. (plus they would have to take difficult terrain tests everytime they wanted to get into a forrest for cover/fieldcraft, and thats not good )

Edit: That kroot nob biker army is AWESOME though!

I've got some fluff to back up the conversions, so it makes sense they would be riding bikes.

And a moped is light enough, I figure they could move it around under themselves pretty well, giving them the same "move through terrain" rules that they already have (much like the Shining Spears from the eldar army).

I was reading the fluff about kroots last night and learned of their selective mutation and DNA collecting. It got me thinking about what the kroot would look like after spending a while with orks as their main counterpart.

I think that Kroot Nob Biker army is awesome. It works surprisingly well, even though the heads are so small on those shoulders. Like steroid chugging body builders. Perfect for a new orkish breed of kroot.
