Subject: There are no "Space Marines" of WM/HDE is there?

Just asking, cause I have decided to go ahead and build a Hordes and a WM force, and I don't want to end up picking the most common army for either set.
I am looking at Skorne for Hordes, I really like the Cyclops models for them. Circle, Legion, none of the others really catch me with their models.
And for WM I am going with the force that I wanted to start back when the game first came out but my store was sold out of the battlebox, so I never did get into the game back then. Menoth. Burning heretics is right up my alley, and they have the models that I like the most out of the WM side of the house.
So really I was wondering how the player breakdown is, as you have seen it around your area. I would hate to put the time into the models, to have someone go "ANOTHER (Marine) Menoth/skorne army.....sigh", you feel me?
Thanks all! Looking forward to getting into the game in the coming year!

You're more likely to see a super common unit for a particular army than a particular
faction. But I'm not sure what those units will be when MK2 hits. Currently the
most common units are
Protectorate: Zealots with monolith bearer
Khador: Winter Guard, Mortars, Demo Corps
Cryx: Bane Knights
Cygnar: Long Gunners (?)
Trollbloods: Champions, Krielstone Bearer
Legion: Seraphs
Each faction has its power pieces, but even the players get tired of using
those.

Cygnar is the faction that most commonly gets slagged on for being the company favorite, with claims that they get a lot more coverage, art inclusion, come out best in the fluff, etc., etc.
They are even getting their faction book first, which even though it was based upon summer rampage campaign scores still irks most non-Cygnar players.
Cygnar is the faction that most PP players (that arent Cygnaran) love to hate...

I never understood anti-Cygnar sentiment. Ah, well.

Anticygnar sentiment makes little sense seeing as all races get equal treatment rules and releases wise. Who cares about some minor skews in artwork or the short stories? That's probably a carry over from the RPG days.

Exactly. Unless Cygnar gets the first wave and commands the new releases before
anyone else (I'm talking three month spans), it makes little sense to h8 on the Swan.
Unless you're a Vinter Loyalist.

As we know gamers as a population are not known for basing their actions and statements towards game companies or other players on things like "fact", "reason" or "common sense". People hate on stuff because they can...
It also probably doesnt help that:
1. Matt Wilson ( PP head honcho) flys a Stryker avatar on the forums
2. Haley seems to bear a striking likeness to his wife
3. Cygnar was the first choice for and got the only action figure
etc.
Besides, Every game has a force that the player base loves to hate. Gamer Geeks like most people feel the need to jockey for social status (perceived or otherwise)within their social group...

As the outsider stepping into the ring, I can see the Cygnar in art thing, because of the way that they look. Tesla Coils and whatnot all over the place, they really call out "Steampunk" to me.
Otherwise it seemed that every faction gets a model/unit of some sort at about the same rate, which is refreshing. No Cygnar unit, Khador single, Cygnar unit, Menoth single, etc...you know what I am talking about (GW PA spam, sprinkled with Xenos releases...)

Well I think a lot of the cygnar hate comes from them being seen as the 'protagonist' of the overarching story, and being the good guys isn't always fun. Part of it is also that most people at one time or another played a little cygnar, its kinda the defacto starter army in most shops. I wouldn't say there is a space marines of Warmahordes, in the respect that there is a larger group of players playing that faction, its pretty well evenly spread from what I've seen.
I started with Cygnar cause Caine and the gunmages (the new staple trooper for Cygnar in MK2 Malf) but I've since shifted to highborn as Ashlynn calls to me.
As to the action figure comment Khador's gotten both Extremes for WM, Cryx got the resin slayer kit and menoth.... well. No one likes menoth so meh. ;p

At one of the two clubs I play at, Menoth are the "SM" faction (of the 12 players, 5 play Menoth. Two play Cryx, two play Cygnar and the remaining three play Khador).
Two Khador players and 2 of the menoth players also play Hordes armies.
[The rest of the club plays 40k, bloodbowl, FoW or Infinity.]

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Consider different contracts of Mercenary. They are very different as a stand alone army. Just my 5 cents.
