Yeah, well, I just got commission number 7 in. It is so important that I am taking a break for the next couple of weeks from the other commissions.

I have gotten a bunch of stuff done since my last post, I just need to get it photographed! In the meantime, here are some pictures to look at and (hopefully!) comment on.
First off, I have the NG shaman from BfSP. Or rather, two of them. The one one the left is the first one I ever painted, and the one on the right I just finished in 4 hours. It is interesting, and a little disappointing, to see how much I have progressed in 3 years.
And here are 4 WIP Black Orcs. I am really trying to get razor edge highlighting down, since my end goal is to be able to paint as well as some of the newer 'Eavy Metal paintjobs. Maybe not the same style, but as skillfully.
Hope you guys like them!

Yes, I guess I did. I have some pretty high standards for myself.
However, he DOES look better in a new photo I took of him.
Thaaats better. And here is some new stuff as well! The pictures are all about 5 days old, though, so I have made a lot more progress since than.
Some Black Orcs...
My Orc Warboss, still WiP.
And 5 (finished!)more orc boyz, a part of my unit of 40.

Long time, no update, eh? I have been pretty busy with school/life in general, so I haven't been able to get much painting done at all. Oh well, here is some new stuff for you guys! First off, I have made some progress on my Hammerhead. I decided to try a new technique for weathering my models, so I broke out some out bits of foam and mixed up a rusty color, and voila! Some really nice, easy battle damage and weather. I also took some mithril silver and stippled it on the damaged green areas, but I am undecided as to if I like it. Also, I'm also having trouble deciding if I like the way the highlights came out on the green bits...do you guys have any thoughts here? I could really use'em! Also, I was so happy with the damage on the Hammerhead that I did the same thing on the Piranha. Nothing much else to say except that I am really satisfied with the way it turned out. Here are some more updates on the Space Hulk commission! I am nearing the customers deadline of August, so I am hoping to get in some big 'ol weekend painting sessions. And finally, some Savage orcs! Got these guys two weeks ago, got in a couple sessions with them, then I had to set them aside. Planning on getting these guys done sooner rather than later. Not to into the gory teeth on the middle one, though, And here are two shots, one of the tattoo design I am going for, and another of the blood effect I am using, which involves lots of paintbrush splattering. I just need some gloss varnish to finish it off. C&C would be really appreciated, guys. _Tim?

Heya Tim.
Actually like the damaged effect on the Tau vehicles - my only concern is how it's done - you said a rusty colour? So it's it pure metal on base colours? Possibly some black under and then the metal on top to create the chipping effect as well?

Thanks, DarkStar! I did the weathering effect by first mixing up a 20/80 mix of Scorched Brown and Black, respectively. This was the first layer; after that, I worked up to pure Scorched Brown. Then I mixed a little bit of Scorched Brown/black, and Mithril Sliver, and stippled this on. After that dried, I just stippled on pure Mithril Silver.
I am thinking of using the sponge technique over the Mithril Sliver parts, using a 50/50 mix of Scorched Brown/Blazing orange. Any thoughts?

Heya Tim...thanks for clarifying the weathering.
I'd say avoid orange though - for some reason Tau equipment doesn't seem the sort that would rust. Just tarnish.

Hey Tim, been a while since I last posted here.
Wow, I must say I am impressed. The weathering on the Piranha and the Hammerhead is brilliant. It's definitely a great contrast with the otherwise clean and crisp paint scheme of your Tau force.
The commissions are also looking ace. I really like those nids, as you've pulled off the 'classic' Genestealer very well. In particular, the Broodlord looks fantastic, with the well defined highlights. Your brushwork has definitely improved since even your last update (and they looked great).
And lastly, the Orcs. The tattoos are excellent and the gore has been pulled off really well.
Anyway, It's great to see your updates again.

Hey, thanks guys! It's always good to hear from you all! Anyways, I have a question for my readers. I am working on a Empire Battle Wizard (Lore of Fire), to be sold on eBay. However, I am having some trouble with the flame. Somehow, the flames looks very...cartoonish and flat, more like a flag than flames. Any ideas on how to improve it? It's still a wip, so there is room for improvement! Cheers! _Tim?

I wouldn't claim to be an expert on blending, but I reckon a more feathery transition into each higher level of flame would make a bit more realism- some lines of orange starting in the yellow, some lines of red starting in the orange, some black going all the way through?

Ace work on all the pieces - love the weathering on the tau vehicles and I wish those were my genestealers!
On the wizard - I think the direction of the colour is why it looks a little out. Rather than layering vertically like you have maybe try following the colours along the flames (horizontally). Hope that makes sense!
Keep up the good work.

Cheers, itsonlyme! I keep forgetting to look for that stuff when I go to my FLGS. Ah well, next time...
Me and my gaming buddy where hanging out this past weekend, and we got a couple big painting sessions busted out! Got some more 'Nids started, did some work on my Savage orcs, started in on my Dust Tactics Walkers, and played around with some snow effects I bought on Friday (more on that later!)
Aside from painting, we also did some serious talking, and decided that Warhammer 40k is really not the game we want it to be. So, he and I are going to be selling off our 40k armies, and re-investing our money in Dust tactics. If anyone is interested in my Tau, PM me. I will probably put them up on eBay, the newer ones at least, in a week or so, once I finish them up.
ALSO, about the snow. I bought The Army Painter brand of snow, and I am not to impressed by it. It is a white powder, and ends up looking like white sand whenever it dries...Am I using it wrong? I have tried mixing it with white glue; didn't work, so I tried white glue and gloss varnish; didn't work. Any ideas here, guys?
Cheers!

A glimpse of the future
Things have been in a bit of a lull lately, as I have not had much to paint. This will soon be fixed. I have compiled a rough schedule for the rest of the year, in relation to what projects I have planned:
August: Finish up the Space Hulk project, probably by the middle of next week. Also, get my Dust Tactics walkers painted up. And, as I am hoping to start up an eBay store, finish painting my Empire Wizard, and get my hands on a Necrosphinx (which is, BTW, going to be fully magnetized, with each option being painted!)
September: Probably going to get the Necrosphinx listed up on eBay around this time; what should I charge for him? Keep in mind that he will be totally magnetized and painted. If he sells, I will pick up some more models, probably some Space Mehrenzz and some misc. hero/lord types. Maybe an Arcahanorak spider.
October: Paint up and sell some Ogre Kingdoms! Specifically, this model > http://www.dakkadakka.com/s/i/at/at2/2011/8/1/cbf72b9b9ea38dff88cf457dffe13138_5394.jpg , who will be fully magnetized. Also, this will be my birthday month, so I can expect some new Dust Tactics, and maybe some more Savage Orcs.
November: I have a small Cryx commission slotted for this month. This will hopefully provide the funds for some more models I can buy, paint/magnetize, and sell on eBay.
December: ????
So, that is what you guys can expect to see in the following months. Of course, this is a very loose list; there will be surely something to distract in the next 5 months!
Cheers!

But, I don't have the Menoth army book, btemple! As it is, I have figured out a way to do it, no worries. Once I can get my camera functioning, I will get pictures up.
Oookay, I have a question for you guys, concerning the Necrosphinx I am planning on painting up soon.
What paintscheme should I use? I have been considering making the main body look like ebony, but sadly, that would look pretty dull. So, I have bee considering basing the whole body section in a deep, dark red; then going straight into doing layered, stark edge highlights. Another idea I had was to leave the whole body black, then have tons of red cracks running through it...As you can see, red is a color I am wanting to use here.
What other color schemes can you guys see working on the 'Sphinx?
Whatever scheme I choose, I am going to give the whole body section a good gloss varnish glaze, so it looks like it has been polished.

Just finished up the Space Hulk commission!
The Forces of the Imperium! I forgot to include a photograph of Noctis, my bad. Still some little tiny bits here and there that need done on these guys, but for all intents at purposes, they are done!
Librarian:
Sergeant Lorenzo:
Sergeant Gideon:
Brother Deino:
Brother Goriel:
Brother Valencio:
Brother Claudio:
Brother Zael:
Brother Leon:
Brother Omnio:
Brother Scipio:
And the obligatory group shot, with the dead Space Marine:
On too the Tyranids! I couldn't get photographs of every single one of these, so I randomly picked out 3 of them as a sample for what the rest look like:
I love the guy on the far left, he really seems to be enjoying his helmet.
And here is the Broodlord! I don't know if you guys can see it, but I made his tongue glossy and wet looking:
And here is a group shot of all the Tyranids together!
All in all, this was a really interesting commission; the Space Marine models are some of the most complex ones I have ever encountered. The Tyranids made a nice, relaxing way to break up the monotony of all of the red armor on the Space Marines!
All in all, I am pretty happy with these guys, and so Andy! So - happy customer + happy painter = a really enjoyable commission!
Also, it looks as though I will have ANOTHER Space Hulk commission after this one! The next one will be waaay faster, though, as I have discovered the joy of colored primer!
Comments and criticisms are, as always, appreciated!

Right! It has been WAAAY too long since I last updated this thread, thanks in part a combination of commissions, real life, and procrastination. Still, here are some picture of my unit of Savage Orcs, which is by now almost done. It just needs a weeny bit more work and then some cleanup and it will be done. I also have a new set-up for taking photographs, so my photos should now all be consistent. I am especially happy with the yellow on the totem pole. Also, I have been working on small side-project: a Necrosphinx, which I plan to sell off on eBay. Obviously still WiP. And I recently finished a Dreadfleet commission, so here are some of my favorite ships from that set. As always, comments are welcomed! ~Tim?
