(only partially bike related) UPDATE!

matphat wrote:I was hesitant to say this, but now that I see how the engine is shaping up, and how the gearing is starting to look, I can't help it.
This project is SCREAMING to become a trike.
With a shortened rear axle and big beefy differential, huge mudder tires, etc...
I've yet to see a GREAT triker boss, but this beast seems to be a perfect candidate for it.
And yes this DOES include Vincent Hudon's amazingly painted trike boss from last years Golden Demon. I love his paint job, but the model really wasn't that impressive mechanically.

Dude, you're absolutely right. I've been thinking about turning it into a trike before, and yeah, I guess I should....
*rubs hand* this will be fun!

Merlin, one of the pitfalls I see a lot of bikes hit is putting the axle too far below the engine giving it a high clearance. I don't think this really works visually with bikes and if I were you I'd make sure the driveshaft and gearbox were set so that the wheels sit with just enough clearance to keep the oil pan from dragging.
It will be much faster looking and have a better profile.

Something like this, but maybe drop the clearance even more.

Top view for fun.

Thank you very much for these images, thats how I'll build it! But so far I've only tacked some fitting alarm clock gears on it and build an imaginary differential..... Things are very busy around here, and I have to paint a bunch of orks on commission and my dakka-painting-challenge entry before I can get back to the trike..... sorry

Oh and feel free to check out my commission blog (see sig)!

UPDATE!
Look who's managed to squeeze a few minutes of trike-building in between the other stuff he has to do (preparing for a six-week trip to england, departure tomorrow....)

I glued and tacked the differential together, and drew a few bars on my pc:

it looks a little off, but its no prob since I've not glued all of it yet.....

That's it for the next month and a half, which I'll spend in cornwall (and maybe a week in the netherlands). Expect the next updates when I'm back!

See ya!

UPDATE!
Yes, I actually managed to work on it some more! Departure to england has been moved to tomorrow morning....

Well, I didn't do much.... just glued everything together and added these pipes:

I'm not completely happy about it as some things look a little uneven and messy, but that can be fixed with a little GS (the differential isn't in the center of the axle for example....)

What do you think?

I reckon if you have big chunky exhausts running in through the frame between the wheels and sticking up at an angle, 2 rows of 3 should make it looking really mean.

Trying to find a pic to demonstrate and ill edit and add if i find it (i can see it in my head, but cant find a pic of it)

EDIT: Found it.............
Something like this but more of them and sticking up between the wheels

I like the way that the differetial looks quite like the real deal. I'd say the idea of several massive exhaust pipes is quite fitting.
Though i can imagine you could put a few bars there that could become the frame for two(or more) big shootas that would point over the sides of the engine, so the driver would fire over his head, the muzzles somewhere over his shoulders.

Something like this:
