Greeting to you Dakkanauts out there,

First of all, I'm not native english speaking, so i apologize in advance for torturing grammar so bad.
well, here we go:
This blog will be about me getting started with the wargaming hobby, and although i'm already some months into painting, i've never actually played a single game until now.
So this can still considered a "from the very beginning" blog.
After getting me a AOBR box I quickly decided on choosing the Orks as the perfect army for me, because of their random an fun nature. So I'm setting up my boyz as Bad Moonz, because i think my painting skill and their appearance will go along nicely.
Now, thing is, I'm a hell of a slow painter. Plus my job doesn't leave all to much time for painting as well. Meaning that it took me about two months to do my first trukk. So I thought doing a blog here will help me to keep up motivation and provide me with feedback how to do better and maybe even quicker.

At this point I'm seducing my girlfriend to get into 40k as well, so I have someone to play with around me . But she already made clear that she won't be painting her army herself, so this may as well become a SM blog too.

Now to have some pictures for you, since that's what we're coming here anyway, ain't we?

First up: six Slugga Boyz which where kind of a test if my army will look any good. I'm kind of pleased with them, though I realised that my highlighting/shadows seem to be to subtle to be shown well on images.

And since the Boyz need a ride here we have them a Trukk. I totally got myself stuck into many details here, that do not show in the end. Like scales an all that. I know now that it was'nt that good an idea to paint a vehicle with this little practice. Next one will come along better, I hope.

And here we have the most recent one. One of them AOBR nobs. I think he's quite nice, since he's actually bound for the table-top.

What do you think? Am I anywhere near a good direction towards a decent looking army?

Next will be some WIPs of another Nob.

That's it for now.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So, here's the next of those nobs, still heavily in progress.

Currently I'm playing around with using alcohol as a thinner for my paints. At least it helps with the blacks. Next time i think i will take my pictures with my usual setup. Doing so on my worktable just does no good.

Some impressive stuff so far. Wish I could paint that well "some months into painting".

Really liking the bold colours and the yellow is very good.

Keep them coming!

Anyone who gets yellow to look that good deserves many thumbs up and a fistful of Nob Teef.

I especially love the way the Trukk came together with it's colours.

Nothin' says lovin' like a stream of corruption.

Thanks for the kind comments.

@Roy: Yes, i'm not that long into painting stuff. I don't think I've done more than 30 minis to date.

My yellows aren't that sophisticated. Mostly Iyanden Darksun thinned down quite a lot and applied in several coates.
BTW: What would be the base color that comes closest to Iyanden Darksun with the new color range from GW?

So, some progress on the Nob. I think it's slowly coming together quite nicely.
Hope to finish most of it this weekend. I relaise that I will get a problem if I want to paint a complete army at this slow pace.

Supposedly Averland Sunset, according to their colour conversion chart. You can find the chart on the GW website, or if you happen across April's White Dwarf, it is in there as well.

And sometimes the simplest painting concepts can produce the greatest results.

Well, here we go. Nob's finished I'm pretty happy with the result. Noticed a few flaws after taking the pictures, but i will consider him finished nonetheless. After all, he's not meant to win me any prices.(Except on the battlefield maybe.)

Here are three shots from various angles. Let me know what you guys think of him.

Thanks, was hoping he would be liked.

Does anybody have a good idea how I should go about painting an army in reasonable time, but still maintain a nice quality?
Maybe just basecoat them all all do the details later? Seems like the way to go, but sounds awfully boring to do and I'm awfully easy to be distracted.

Sub, Here's a good Speed Painting guide for Bad Moons.

I like your stuff, and your english is not torturous. It's actually better than some native speakers on the site!

Happy to see you guys like my orkz.

So, had an extended weekend and used it to deflower myself and my girlfriend game-wise.
And it was just like a first-time experience is supposed to be: confusing.
Not that it wasn't fun. I was totally amazed about my spouses ability to fail her saves.

But i found myself wanting for better terrain and a proper gaming table really bad.
So, next thing I'm up to is building myself some terrain pieces and a orky army list.
I think i might put it here to see what you guys think about it.

Time to update I guess.

I started to get my Warboss into shape for priming. I took the Squighound from the Grot Herder and made it the boss' Attack Squig.
Also I extended his bosspole a bit, 'cause you know, one's pole can't be to large, can it?

As mentioned before, I was going to try my hand at terrain pieces. At first I thought I did well. But when I put it on the Table for the first time, with a squad next to it, I quickly realized: it's too small! Crap. Well, it will still make for a nice addition to a otherwise improvised gaming-table.

I also came up with a list I think I'm aiming to assemble.

1000pts:

HQ 1:
Warboss with Power Klaw,Attack Squig,Bosspole, 'eavy Armour

Elites
5x Nob with Bosspole,Waaagh! Banner,2x Power Klaw,3x Big Choppa
Squad Transport
Battlewagon with Deff Rolla,2x Big Shoota

Troops

Troop 1:
Nob with Power Klaw,Bosspole
10x Boys (Warboss goes with these)
Squad Transport
Trukk with Reinforced Ram

Troop2:
Nob with Power Klaw,Bosspole
11x Boys with
Squad Transport
Trukk with Reinforced Ram

Troop 3:
Nob with Power Klaw,Bosspole
11x Boys with
Squad Transport
Trukk with Reinforced Ram

Fast Attack
3x Deffkoptas with 3x Twin-linked Rokkit Launcha

So that's a pretty completely mechanised list. This means i've to get me two more trukks, a boyz box, a boss box and a battlewagon. I think I'll be quite mobile and got 4 scoring units here. So, what do you think? Solid list or not?

Update:

I build another terrain piece and this time I think I got the scaling right. It is real fun to build this stuff. I'm planning to build me a table during summer. Best part of it: my girlfriend supports it and even wants to help with it.

Heres how i build my newest piece:

And finished:

I could not resist to take another shot with a mini to see how it would work as a background for futurre mini shots.
I'm pleased:

My girlfriend decided that she would have the marines from the Black Reach set and start her own Army with those. She chose the Raven Guard as her chapter, so my next thing will be doing a test mini to determine a color-scheme that she likes. (She wont paint them herself, but since i like painting, it's ok. (and honestly, i'm lucky enough she's participating in my hobby, ain't I? )

The last two days I managed to get the test model for the Raven Guard of my girlfriend painted. Still need to do the basing, but the paint job is done and guess what: she actually liked it!

I hope you do too. So here he is:

He's from the 3rd Company and that means somewhere in the future there is going to be a Shadow-Captain Shrike waiting to be painted.
Next thing on my workbench are two more marines and my waahgboss.
Still looking for a name for that one though.

See ya!

So, kind of let the project log die here. Time to do an update.

Most of my free time I spent either assembling, buying or playing. (Well, except from the time one spent's with family).
Got into quite a few games and my army is now able to support a 1650 list, that is actually playable (including a Dakkajet ). Not that I won all to often, but had lots of fun.

Anyways. Pictures, thats what it's all about, isn't it?

Got my Waaghboss finished and painted up the AoBR Cybot for the Raven Guard.

Also liking the dred, nice and crisp paintwork there!
