What type of Dark Eldar army could defeat Tyranids?

...tanks from the 23rd and 48th batallion were flanked by tanks from the enemies' 56th batallion. It was then that General Smedfordshire revealed his secret weapon: a slightly larger tank.

Nice avatar:

Gunboats beat nids.

Raiders are open-topped, so just fly around the gaunts, peppering them with splinter fire.

Vs the big bugs, use the dark lance on the raiders.

But don't get all bent out of shape if your opponent looks disdainfully upon your lack of originality while tabling you in 4 turns because he's got beating SMs down to an exact science after fighting them for hundreds of consecutive games.

So webway portals are a no then?

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Webway portals are related to an army type and a strategy, and are not relevant to being used against any particular codex as a means for victory.

To put you question into layman's non-40k terms...

You asked, "What kind of car gets the best gas mileage?"
kuro_khan answered, "Hybrid cars do!"
You asked, "So all-terrain tires aren't any good?"

The question has nothing to do with your original question or the answer to it - make sense?

Webway portals are useful for putting a foot-slogging DE list where you want them, which is a matter apart from how to beat tyranids. =p

Ah but the Webway Portal strategy usually revolves around CC. Tyranids usually want you in CC so i figured that webway portals are not a good idea. Granted this applies to any CC army and not just nids. I do however, agree that the wwp question is irrevelevant to my original question.

Dark Eldar are no slouches in CC, but Nids aren't bad either, and have these factors in their advantage:
1: Numbers
2: Size
3: Both

So... shoot shoot shoot, then assault the remnants.

Nids also have units that can out initiative DE - which is one of our primary strengths in h2h. Though really, we are better in h2h as long as we get to be the ones picking which units are fighting.

Overall I agree that either gunline or gunboats are optimal tools for dealing with Tyranids. In h2h Wyches can eat up Carnies and other big bugs and Incubi squads can shred through most of the lesser bugs with ease and skill. Definitely shoot Genestealers and use your mobility to keep yourself away from the heart of the bug swarm, you want to keep picking at the edges and wearing them down. Overall I feel Tyranids are a very easy matchup for DE.

DE needs mobility, firepower, and numbers.
I'd through DE force at one flank of the Nids.
Shoot the big nasties with dark lances.
If the hive minded are dead, it becomes much easier.
In the new edition, Warriors and Zoantrophes can be instantly killed. This will help a lot.
Wyches can take on Genestealers in cc,
while Warrior squads can rapid fire Gaunts to death.
Leave Incubi at home.
