Well, DFG is back at it again with a peak at a 2010 release of some Leviathans for 28mm and 10mm kits. A new web site was pushed up with broken links and all.... I just got tired of looking at the old site and a blog page started with my most recent projects for DFG and other miniature companies.
Here is a sneak peak http://dreamforge-games.blogspot.com/2009/12/leviathan-crusader-and-mortis-update.html
Please let me know your thoughts. These are pre-production CAD models. We will be releasing four variants with different heads and weapons and some armor changes with each variant.
Please feel free to comment on the design, as stated before they are pre-production and open to changes.
Happy New Years!

Thanks Darth Bob, I think they rock as well....The price and size have not been set in stone.
I know if we go with a 10.5" model the cost of the print, resin, molds, casting services and ebay/paypal fees and finally taxes will add up. Just on a prelim look with my actual profit being about $50 per kit I would need to price it between $350 to $375.
If I sell direct from the web site and by money-order or check only I can knock $50 off that. I can also scale down the kit final size and knock some off as well but most seem to like the large kits for an impressive display of firepower and presence on the table.
All that said I'm open to the final kit size.

Good to see you back, I fondly remember your last venture into models. I like the design so far, but I'm not sure how big it will be from the render, cna you add something to give it scale? For a giant gothic robot I can see a price point of $300 to $500 working. Check out the prices the old Armorcast Battlemechs and titans are going for on ebay as a guide. PS I also suggest you upload the renders to the Dakka gallery, that will give them more visibility on the site.

Good to see Dreamforge back, Mark. Best of luck.
Kits look great - just added your site to "favorites", will be keeping tabs.
Size-wise, I feel probably 7 - 8 inches high would be best for a "knight" proxy - 10 inches and above is starting to push into the Scout (e.g Warhound) Titan scale (just looking at my old Armorcast WH sitting here...)
Real shame that your Warlord proxies aren't available - loved those. Don't suppose you have any plans for something that size again?

Welcome back Mark. I'd given up on DFG after you had to refund the cost of two Leviathans you were in the process of casting for me and the long silence afterward on the old website.
Looking forward to the new models whenever they may be available.

Holy crap!? You guys are still alive? Remember me? Leon and I tried to keep your forums going for like a year or so after the "incident" but we eventually gave up. Glad to see you guys are back up (and I love what you've done with your website. I'm guessing you're moving on and leaving the "Rusted Faith" concept behind?)
So..... not to be an ungrateful little twirp, but when are you going to start producing the Black Widow again? I remember you saying you were unhappy with its size (which is silly, IMO, it was perfectly sized!), I hope to see it back in production, as I've been waiting to buy one since... what '06/07? I managed to get my hands on a turret, but alas, no legs or weapons...

Thank you all for your kind words, I am looking forward to getting these printed.
I plan to release the kits with removable lower arms and an option to purchase other weapons; so you will have 8-9 weapons to choose from to outfit your Leviathan as you desire. I’m not so concerned about making a proxy, more about what scale works for the components and the casting process.
I fondly remember many of you from my last foray into the market and it warms my heart that you remember my models and me. It feels good to be doing something I love again.
To address a couple of questions; CCW are options but as stated before you will be able to choose your Leviathans weapons. The Black Widow heavy tank will be re-released with a few upgrades such as movable secondary weapon ball turrets and more details throughout. This is simply the first release, many more tanks, Leviathans, and infantry are planned. The game system is not dead, just re-named and slightly transformed to be a more current incarnation. I have been working on streamlining the system and eliminating as many steps and charts as possible while still keeping a more detailed play than a simple “Igo-Ugo” roll 1D6 to see if I destroyed your $300.00 model . Admittedly the game is less of a priority as many of you have your favorite systems but it is still important to me on a personal level to give those who want it a fun and playable alternative to (what I view as) overly simplistic combat resolution.
I would like to restart a forum at some point but I feel my energy and time is better spent developing the models at this point.
Once again; thank you all and I hope 2010 finds you well and prosperous.
Best,
Mark-

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Howdy Mark! Bought a Gabriel from you 4-5 years ago and was all lined up for a Crusader before it got nixed. Spooked around the website for years, but practically gave up. I was so stoked when your new website went online (looks great) and now seeing you on Dakka again is the icing on the cake. I'm glad you didn't give up. The Leviathans look amazing (I'm in love with the new Crusader with Vulcan cannon and claw) and I'm really excited about your infantry as well. Welcome back!

Uploaded two new heads to my gallery, Leviathan Azriel and Leviathan Gabriel. The heads on these have been moved out of the torso to make room for larger reactors. These will be the only Leviathans in their size class sporting energy weapons. In Iron Core, energy weapons are rare for the human factions and found mostly on ships not walkers. Some larger tanks also employ energy weapons but projectile weapons are the norm.
Still working on the weapons and the armor changes between each variant; there is still some detailing that needs to be done to both heads but the main form is done.
Best,

Uploaded some optional armor add-ons. The legs, shoulders and feet have been up-armored some plates for the arms, waist and neck/upper torso still need to be created. all of the add-ons need to be detailed but the shapes are roughed out.
This armor set was designed for used on the Leviathan Crusader, but will be able to be used on any of the variants as shown.

Those look great, but they also represent half a year of my miniatures budget, and there are no rules for them from GW, so I would not be able to use it. As it is, I have a stompa and baneblade that are gathering dust because nobody I know plays apocalypse. Hell, I have to play against two people at once if I want to do more than 1,000 points most weeks. If you made it 8" tall and found a way to price it $200 or less, I might be tempted, using a variation of the Ork Mega Dread rules for forgeworld.

I hear you and your concerns do not fall on deaf ears; I do everything I can to make my kits as reasonable as possible. I certainly wont be getting rich off this and don’t feel I need to. It’s an expensive hobby to be sure. The cost for a small manufacturer to make such kits is fairly inflexible. You can sculpt them by hand, this being the least expensive option or use a CAD program and have them printed at 3-5k for something this size. The mold costs and resin costs are what they are. Silicone rubber runs about $91 per gallon and a kit like this will take 3-5 gallons. The resin runs $80+ per gallon and will likely use ¼ of that per casting… then you add in mold release, box and packaging Ebay seller’s fees and Paypal and your left with a healthy sum just to sell a kit. If you’re having you’re kits cast out of house you pay $75 and up for this service. I could cast them in house but this takes me away from expanding my product line. It’s a double-edged sword.
All I can say is that we will offer other kits that will be at a lower purchase price. I also plan to release these in 10mm or 15mm scale; roughly 3 to 3.5” tall for this model and the cost of these will be within reach of most gamers. I feel the smaller scale is FAR more usable than the larger when it comes to gaming and I would expect to sell many more in this scale than in the 28mm scale, but I like may others like the large models and collect them for painting and modeling purposes more than gaming.
As far as finding people to play with, I understand completely. We have very few gaming locations where I live but others seem to have all the luck with a healthy and active game community. True GW possibilities are limited but these are NOT GW proxies. If you wanted to use them in a 40k game I suppose you could but most GW game centers will not allow you to use other companies minis in their sanctioned games. I am designing these kits for a very different game and play style than GW, much more in line with a WWII armor vs. armor combat… not a infantry squad game. There are literally hundreds of sci-fi rule sets out there that would work far better for these kits than GW rules. Dirtside II and 5150 are two that jump to mind and when the art is completed and the rules have been sufficiently play tested, our own Iron Core rules will be released.
All the Best,
Mark-

New and improved Gabriel! Hooray! I've always loved the head, but wasn't a fan of the legs as "knightly" as they may have been. As for your leg varients, the up-armored boots are cool, but I prefer the "bearclaw" versions. Any chance we'll be seeing the big ol' Gabriel chainsaw coming back?
