TURN 1
TURN 2
The Trygon Alpha shows up shoots up the nearby marines with his bio field and kills 1 marine. The Black Templars disembark and pump everything at the Trygon who does a really good job at distracting the enemy not much else.
TURN 3
TURN 4
The Tyranids counter assault, the Tyrant charges the terminators after killing one with the venom cannon. The blessed land raider keeps shruggin off attack after attack truly blessed that one. However he keeps getting armament destroyed results in the process. The Tyrant ends up killing off the terminator unit single handedly however the Templars punch through the zoanthropes and head for their original goal the biovores. Speaknig of biovore by now there isnt enough infantry in the board for them to attack which sucked. The zoanthropes warp blast the assault marines leaving only one remaining who falls back but regroups later only to come and assault them.
TURN 5
The black templar have the advantage at this point with a sole survivor hiding behind the destroyed vindicator in the back and the chaplain's unit that has survived this long and captures the Tyranid objective. If the game ends the templars win however it doesnt end...it is far from over
TURN 6
Now the templars try to force the gaunts off the objective with the lone remaining templar, while trying to hold their ground. If things go well they could win the game. However the game does not end here
TURN 7
The tyranids press the black templars into a corner as the Land Raider tries to set a defensive wall against the carnifexes and zoanthropes but proves unsuccessful as the carnifexes finally tear it open in assault, the Tyrant joins the zoanthropes that held the Black templar HQ and Assault Marine in combat for the past couple phases, while the Gaunts at the top kill the last templar and claim the objective.
The chaplain becomes the only remaining survivor surviving focused warp blasts with a 4+ inv to avoid instant death and being tabled. My opponent concedes the game and the Nids take their first victory in a long hard fought battle that could have truly ended badly with any less luck.
WINNER: TYRANIDS

So far everybattle report has the trygon not working out. I wonder if it would do better in a deepstriking army or not? Good game. it felt odd to see a tyrant get beaten so easy in combat.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole |

Well if they got invuns and 2+ with their T6, T7 then it makes em... I dunno, a little broken. Especially seeing as every other MC in the game that has invuns is T6, costs a bunch o' points, and doesn't get rad upgrades like nids (or doesn't get to run spam MC's for that matter).
Anyways, great game overall, and definitely an interesting list

Cool report. I'm thinking at 2000 points, there is just too much firepower on the table to drop a Trygon sitting up front and out in the open. But, the terrain probably made it difficult to get him into a position to get a cover save.
Thanks for posting. It was easy to follow and neat to read about the new Tyranids.

I am liking your Batreps more and more, as you and your opponent's armies get better painted and play on nicer terrain! So were you using the store copy of the codex or going on the predicted stats posted everywhere? And lastly, what are some "Must-have" units for tyranids as you see it?

The battle report will be hopefully worked out tomorrow for this game.
But I just wanted to post about my impressions on some stuff.
1. The Hive Tyrant i've noticed as with all our monstrous creatures are pretty much as weak on defensive as our Elite carnifexes used to be in 4th edition. The Tyrant got wrecked BAD. 300+ point unit that did not get to live past turn 1 even when I attempted to stay outside Tau range.
2. The alpha warrior is amazing! He can sneak in there and damage whatever's in his range. AG worked really well in helping take out vehicles.
3. Zoanthropes FINALLY i got to see their anti-tank potential woohoo! After 3 games! And i'm loving it. Zoanthropes have a near guaranteed penetrating hit on whatever vehicle is within their ange. Only problem were those Tau disruption pods...=grumble= But yeah when the zoanthropes hit they almost always penetrated as well and thanks to the improved AP even on a bad roll you do some nice damage.
4. Rippers, deep striking with spinefist worked pretty well. If it werent for the Kroot that mercilessly slaughtered them right after they killed a unit of Sniper Drones (yeah those hard to reach drones that usually camp at the backlines to avoid being targetted) The ability to pose a threat anywhere on the board is golden for the Ripper Swarms.
5. Devourer Gaunts once again win the MVP award. I had a unit of 30 of them that lasted me all game and destroyed a unit of 12 fire warriors, 1 unit of 3 crisis suits, 1 unit of pathfinders and were also a big contributing part to the demise of the Kroot that were becoming a problem. Beyond a doubt these gaunts are packing some serious heat!
6. Hormagants so the mythic Hormagants took stage and on the table they did not perform as well as you'd expect on paper. It's easier to keep them within synapse range but that also means that they are slower to get into assault which means they get shot with no protection.
RAGE usr isn't much of a problem it does not say you must assualt the closest enemy. Which gives you options to assault or try a multiple assault the only real problem is what direction you get pulled in. And also i realized our army is quite vulnerable to pinning now. My hormies got pinned out of synapse and went ignored after.
Another glaring problem is that they are MUCH weaker when they get assaulted! Even with toxin sacs they don't perform quite as good they got assaulted by crisis suits which had slaughtered a great deal of them prior to the assault but even then it not so good.
Also having no assault grenades hurts a LOT i got stuck going at I1 against fire warriors at one point. And thought i slaughtered all firewarriors with pretty much the hormagants I didn't really feel like the fire warriors were as 'doomed' as almost anything that I shot at with the devourer gaunts.
Devourer Gaunts landed 30 wounds in 1 volley against the fire warriors. The Hormagants werent as numerous however and still did well.
Best Units: Devourer Gaunts, Zoanthropes, Alpha Warrior
Average: Hormagants, Ripper Swarms
Worst: Hive Tyrant
This is only representative of thise particular game i still feel overall the Tyrant is a pretty average unit just have to keep trying to figure out how to make the most of him and keep him alive. Life leech seems almost mandatory as one of his abilities 'just in case'

I figured as much. I've been meaning to get some anyway.
So what is your take on the spore pods? You should try them and let us know. I've been trying to decide if they are worth scratchbuilding...

Well done, but it kind of seems as if you won by chance in this game, at least if I read your remarks correctly. I don't consider a game a true victory unless I was in a winning position at the end of each turn in which the game could end.

You do realize that luck is a part of war?
Do you also consider a game a true victory if the opponent is clearly pounding you and over running you and you are barely holding on because you have one nearly decimated unit that just happens to be on an objective at the end of every turn?
Get my drift?

If you say so.
If you only have one guy left at the end of the game and my entire army is intact and you win because your 1 guy somehow didn't fall back from the objective then to me that's just your luck aiding you and it would quite clear that my army was much superior but still it's a win for you and i don't mind.
I just wouldn't necessarily brag about being decimated and winning with just 1 model on the objective.

I wouldn't necessarily take pride in winning by such a close margin, and I certainly wouldn't brag about it, but I would still take pleasure in the victory. In the end an objective scenario is about fulfilling the objectives, and if that requires sacrificing the entire army or almost the entire army, that's totally okay. 40k is a grim and dark world, after all. Now, obviously I would prefer not to lose any of my troops, but if I do end up winning with the last man standing or whatever, I won't complain.

Anyways, great game overall, and definitely an interesting list
if they had something like a 6 or 5/6 invulnerable it wouldn't be broken, I don't think. Tyranid mc's go down faster than any other mc that ive played against with heavy weapons focused on them.
Bigger and bigger fan of the mawloc, who will kill "something" when they come out of the ground and are just as tough as a trygon to serve its purpose as a dangerous sponge while the rest of the army advances.
Bugs no longer get anything that is T7.
