With the advent of my coming to Dakka, the Painting and Modeling sections were moving into our now "Golden Age". For that I would like to thankyou to the artists that have inspired me; CMDante, Migsula, Grey Death and Xanthos to name but a few. You all have inspired me and know it's my turn (hopefully)
Anyways thoughtful rant over With this inspiration I decided to take up arms to the modeling current that has pulled many in already. i'[m trying to get a few of my freinds in on this to but their a bit reluctant it seems. This project is called the blue moon mainly because thats hat the campaign would be called and I've always been a firm believer since i discovered them that the specialist games are the best games GW has ever produced. I've only played a few of them but most catch my eye. Right on to the modelling before i have a four page rant
Here's the first skeleton for my warband(count as Dreg), this is just a concept so he's not finished yet. Idecided to make him look like he was a citizen which will be soon reinforced with some proper boots, and tatty clothing which I hope to achieve with GS. Mouldlines and things like that are still to be remoed so i do know abou them this is just the concept. Canny readers will notice a few Skeleton pieces on the model.
Concepts for the group:
Vampire: Possibly a Warrior Priest with Ghoul Arms
Necromancer: Either a coverted NM from the Corpse Cart or a loney Wanderer from the Wizard kit(Empire), or maybe a puppet master. Uh Oh!
Ghouls: Ghouls Duh!
Zombies: Hmm Tricky
Dregs: Skeletons
Comments appreciated guys.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
My original inspiration I might not do the Warrior Priest idea but thw the lost Wanderer I claim!
And a little starting roster to give you an idea on things.(These are just notes)
Vampire (Light Armour, Sword)- Warrior Priest Body, Ghoul Arms, Empire Wizard Sword (customized)
Necromancer-(Light Armour, Helmet, Axe) Empire Wizard Body, Amthyest (sp) Scythe (Counts as axe), Converted arm holding a book of magic to chest and caged flagellant head. Also on the base where he is the ground is dead and where he isn't the ground is alive.
Dregs: 2 Skeleton Warriors, Maybe one deformed human with a Bow
A few ghouls in scuttling, sneaking like poses
Zombies: I've seen some nice one's some where, you know the new ones can anyone tell me where to find those please?
Pic:
Oh and sorry for the bad pics, I'm still learning

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

Sounds very promising already! Good sources for inspiration already too.
The corpse cart zombies are a good choice too. The regular ones look terrible by comparison!
If you decide against the warrior priest vampire, why not make it a Witch Hunter vampire instead?
Big hat, classic WH attire -
This figure has always struck me as the perfect base for a conversion into fantasy witch hunter:
Food for thought!
Either way, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I learn it from the master Anyways thanks for the the witch hunter idea, I could see it working actually. I to have also looked at them and thought Fantasy! It's the clothes on the WH that do it.

Ahh Mordheim always fun I'd suggest you take some Dire Wolves in your band the speed and powers great allowing you to easily take out enemy fighters and engage shooty bands several turns faster!

Thanks for the suggestion Llamahead, the only problem I have them I have including them is that I only need 2 and their £12. Noramally I wouldn't care about the cost but just for 2 models it'a a bit much considering the cost of this is already going to start up . That's Dante's fault, putting cool inspiration into my head so I spend lots of money on a few figs Much appreciated!

Don't mention it!
Why not see if you can scrounge a couple of plastic wargs from the LOTR range off some friends or ebay for cheap. They will be more realistically proportioned for wolves in fantasy than the rather horse like dire wolf figures.
More to sculpt on too!

That's handy I think I've got some in the darkest depths of my bitz box some where. Nothing a good bit of stripping paint can't do, needless to say with them being some of my first minis, their not the prettiest flower in the bunch. Oh and looks like you won't send me bankrupt just yet Automatically Appended Next Post: So with a little help from Dante this warband is going slightly off track . With a new original concept in hand 'm going to try and make the warband look like it once was a Witch hunter party even if I only do this to the Dregs. (Although I'm keeping the Necromancer the same.) So here's concept pic of the new Dreg since I had the day off thanks to snow Hope your not to cold up their in Glasgow Dante! The image I want for the mini is mainly to be looking up to the sky searching for creatures unknown, perhaps he does not know the WH has gone the way of the Vampire. Ooooh now we are getting somewhere The cat of nine tails will be replaced with a flaming brand and a sword holstered across his back. What do you think? Oh and are the pics a bit better?. Apparently the trick is a lamp!

If the cat o nine is to be replaced with a fire brand, I would consider moving the arm or the head slightly, otherwise he will be looking directly into the fire and hindering his ability to see in the assumed dark.
I like the idea that he is perhaps an unwitting (or willing?!) thrall to the vampire. The beauty of this gang will be that you can play them as WH's or Undead!
As for the weather, I travel the 30 or so miles to Stirling to work each day, hence facing even more of the snow than normal! It's been pretty damn cold up here, cold enough to freeze over whole lakes (which people have been skating and curling on)!
Cheers,
Dante

I was thinking that last night actually but more because he would be burning himself than that, I was planning to cut the arm at the elbow and put some GS in the middle But I don't dare sculpt until I get some paint shapers. Oh and on the lake topic, lakes are quite are common accurence where I live so if you can imagine how many people have been doing the same. (Near the Lake District) Thanks

I like the base idea of it all, and now that he idea has been changed up to make them look like undead WH I like it even more. I can't wait to see how the gang progresses, keep up the good work.

Thanks Deff Dread glad you like the idea of it all. I think I'm going to change the original skeleton concept, I mean I like the idea but he just looks like a bog standard trooper which I don't like, it needs something more interesting. Edit: Grrr these keys are to small for my fingers! Everytime I try to hit the shift button I hit Ctrl and I keep knocking the button next to any letter I want to press. Time for a new keyboard me thinks. Automatically Appended Next Post: Here's a quick pic of the next model concept, he's mounted on a round base mainly because he wouldn't stand up unless i glued it, it was a bit messy to say the least. I took inspiration from Dante Vespero pose and try to put him in a striding position, all this got me was a lot of fun trying to get to stand up right to say the least. It would of been easier if I hadn't cut the bottom of his legs so I could attach Skeleton legs. I think I got a bit to ambitous. Or is that just the modelling bug kicking in . Unfortunatley i had to shorten the sword holster on his left leg so I could get the leg on, so I might put a sword top on top of it to give the impression of a dagger. this guy will count as a Dreg/Witch hunter Captain. A much bigger improvement on the first Skeleton i think, who has now been scrapped unless I can think of something else to do with him.
Will try to get more pics up soon. Cheers, Bloodthirster

Difficult to make out much of the pose from the pics (angle), whats on his shoulder/neck?
The left arm looks like it could do with being moved up a bit to sit right at the shoulder.
I wouldn't scrap the first guy from the band just because he looks like a normal trooper, nothing wrong with having some bog standard grunts to fill out the numbers and he looked quite nifty too!
Cheers,
Dante

You think so! I don't like this guy anymore anyway i don't know why but i thimk the fact that it took so much attention is the fact that i just don't want to touch him. Any suggestions on the first guy then, i want to add a bit more flair. Oh and the thing rund his neck was to hide the fact he did not have a neck! Cheers, BT

Is he intended as a necromancer or as a wizard?
I've always found necromancers benefit from bald, gaunt heads. It just adds to the deathly look if they practically look like just skulls already.
For that reason, I don't think the bearded head works well if he is a necromancer. As I'm guessing you already have the flagellant kit, why not consider one of the two bald heads from there?
If he is instead meant to be a wizard for hire, the bearded look definitely works.
The other thing I would do regardless of which he is to be is tatter the robes up a bit. I very much doubt anyone with robes like that in Mordheim would have them looking like the day they were bought.
Tattering is pretty easy to do, just cut a few nicks into the edges etc and break out the GS to do some simpler holes and snags on the larger surfaces. You don't need to go wild with it, just a few will give enough of an impression.
Cheers,
Dante

Way ahead of you on the weathering thing mate Thanks for the head suf=ggestion as well though, I've just added an already primed head(the one with his mouth stiched up) I think it looks a lot better. Thanks again you've been a great help with this project, even if it did go way off track .

Along with the new head as I just pointed out above I've added the dagger from the wizard kit I think it should make him more menacing for you.
I'll hopefully post pics later. Thanks, BT

I have to say I'd leave the Cat on the Dreg as I reckon it looks both very Mordheim and extremely Witch Huntery. I also have to say I don't see what's wrong with the beard just paint it extremely pale along with the face.....

Update: I've been working on the Dregs today, still very WIP but I think I'm getting their with the skeleton Dreg concept. after consulting my Grandmother she said it might be an idea to have it look like they have just turned into the undead while still in their original armour. I think it worked, the third dreg has some sort of mutant arm which I'm going off the fluff in the rulebook for this, I still need to blend it in a bit so it doesn't look to out of shape. Otherwise I know about mouldlines and things, so I still got a lot to do! Oh and great! I turning into a modeling frenzy phase. I wonder why! Now for the pics:
