I chose Dark Angels over any other space marine chapter just because of the awesome look of their robes and hoods. To me, nothing is cooler than a space marine's robes rustling in the wind as he hefts his lascannon to blow a hole in an enemy's tank.
So anyway, for about six months now I've been tooling around with the idea of putting some robes on Deathwing terminators, which (of course!) there are no bitz for. Yes, these would be full robes, including putting hoods over the Terminator helmets. This would be done with green stuff, and plenty of it.
This would be my first serious conversion with green stuff, and I was wondering how any of you would go about making the robes out of the green stuff, especially putting hoods on the Termi helmets. Also, do any of you know a cheap brand of green stuff I could buy? I don't want to spend ten bucks or whatever on the GW kind.

Gale force 9 greensuff is much better value than GWs.
Now go out and grab some AOBR terminators and get practicing!

I did this for a buddy of mine. (fallen angels, but robed terminators no less.)
I basically made them in three parts for the closed robes, and four parts for the open. I started with the chest in either case, then the hood, then the robes. The extra step with the open robed models was for the flowing detail at the edges of the robe, it was pretty tricky to get them looking right. (these were my first robe sculpts, I learned a lot from it.)
The one I spent the most time on is the top middle, but the guy I was doing them for needed the as fast as possible, and didn't want to pay a ton for the sculpting. I think I can do better nowadays, but these should give you an idea of where to start.
I use magic sculp (no "t" in sculpt,) for all my sculpting needs. depending on where you live, you can usually get five pounds for around twenty bucks.

So a little shameless thread ressurection.
I'm looking to see if anyone has sample pictures of different kinds of robed terminators, since the ones from the post above can't be viewed for some reason... And the ones I found on google just plain don't look that good.

That first reply from Alex seems to be the best reference. I have searched the same thing and that has been the only help.
I also agree on the Gale Force 9 GS, it is same price as GW, but you get twice as much!
I've only done two robed termies, and since, I've scratched them, I redoing it because I'm getting a whole lot better at sculpting.
But I'd say for terminators be very careful of making the robes look to thick because terminators are already really bulky, my first attempts made them look fat.
Also, figure out if the hood is going to go into the suit, or around it.
I'm gonna try to scult robes for an apothercary terminator later this week and take some pics. I'll let you know how it goes.

Check out my youtube channel for my greenstuff tutorial. It might help you since that's what I did to my Black Templar Termies.

This is the only pic I have and it is by no means a perfect conversion:
The guy on the far left there, I literally pressed a blob of greenstuff onto the torso and carved recesses into it to make it look like a cloth (a sort of Y shape). I don't remember what I did to his back, but I leave the vents exposed.
Between his legs and under his belt I pressed on a 'sheet' of greenstuff and shaped it in the typical robey fashion. Automatically Appended Next Post: and only now do I realise that this was a necro'd thread...
