There has been a lot of icy weather recently and as a result of it my school is closed , i know there's a lot of schools closed in my area, what about other areas?

Who else's school, or a children's school, is shut?

My younger brother has got a day off cschool apparantly. I love England. The second there's half an inch of snow on the ground, the entire country grinds to a halt.

All the schools in the Manchester are closed, ours is closed due to the boiler going kaput... again, it's mostly due to heating and the roads being very slippy and no grit... mind you, we don't get too much snow and when we do get it we aren't that well prepared....

My wife is a teacher and she's been sent home, the lucky bint. I walked and cycled 5 1/2 miles to get to work this morning and practically nobody else is here. They have all phoned in claiming to be "working from home". Been out to lunch and about half of the shops are either shut or closing early (Not GW though!). Honestly, we cope with snow really, really badly down south.

I had a day off this time last year, but my holidays haven't even finished yet, annoyingly, so I am wasting possible snow days by being on holiday anyway!!!

I "work" from home but my missus was told not to come into work today.
We went snowboarding on Brandon Hill then went home when a bit too much grass was showing and watched Stardust.
Now she's cooking dinner, Yay!

Yeah, i heard on the news that Manchester was pretty bad.

Out of the many high schools in my area, only two were open today, and one of those sent home it's pupils at lunch yesterday and is now closed for the rest of the week. We were sent home in the middle of our second lesson yesterday. Some people were sent home in the middle of the day yesterday. My friend lives in a small village and she was sent home yesterday before any of her classmates.

Our school has just posted that it will be open tomorrow but tomorrows forecast is yet more snow, so I'm not sure whether it will be on, come the morning.

Today at one of the schools, apperently one of the girls set of a fire alarm. The staff called a fire engine but couldn't get one to come. Later they realised that, thankfully, it was only a hoax but theyerealised that if there was a real fire, they'd be screwed because they wouldn't be able to get a fire engine. So they closed the school. That, IMO, is a pretty good stunt!!

Unfortunately the snow isn't that bad round here so basically every school is open.

Saying that though we could have 4'' of snow and we would still be open

I'm slightly jealous of all of you over in the UK now. In Minnesota, the snowplow companies are constantly at Defcon 2 in preparation for snow. It's amazing how much work can get done during heavy snowfall - it could start snowing mid-day, be up to a few inches by nightfall (And still snowing, mind you) and in the morning the roads would be clear. As a result, my school district has gotten...I think about 4 snow days in the past 20 years? I think all four of them were the result of there being a blizzard outside, and nobody wanted to risk going out. Heck, we had one day that was so bad, the power in the school went out - and we still had classes! They finally got it back up and running at like 1:30 in the afternoon.

Another school where i live has been closed all week because the boiler's broke down, and it's probably going to be closed most of next week.
