We all know that GW wants to make 40k more and more grimdark so let's add some heretical "good things" in 40k.
I like the Space Wolves for they had tried to save people of Armageddon or Salamanders who fought not for glory or gain, but for the common man on the Armageddon.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Tau don't nuke planets simply because there is Xenos life there. They're happy to let the conquered live, if they join them and fight for the Greater Good of the Tau race. Seems fair. Better than the Nazis in space known as Space Marines.

Honestly I think Ultramar is the best place to hang out in the Imperium. Fairly goverened, nice planets, multiple Space Marine chapters to protect you.
Really if you forget about the whole Tau/Tyranid invasion thing, its a happy place!
It also has the best chance of being the 2nd center of the Imperium if Terra/Mars fall.

We're not debating who you serve, we're discussing what are the happiest places in the far flung future. I'd say the Tau planets. Even if they do brainwash their population, brainwashing into peace is preferable to being ruled through an iron fist of fear.

See...don't. Don't make claims like that. I was perfectly fine with that whole DIY chapter until...you said this. That's just OTT.
1) Cadia
2) Armageddon
3) Ultramar
4) Any of the many systems in the Galaxy with fething Fortress Planets.
Don't rank yourself. At least you kept it relatively real though, some people come up with stories where the entire Chapter destroyed the Eye of Terror themselves and became the new custodes. *facepalm*

1 is terra
2nd is Fenris.
3 ultramar
4 Cadia
5 Armaggedon
6 chapter planets.
See i was talking about fortress's themselves the Planet of Drancoris has two layers (sorta like Calth)
And the Fortress Monestary always has Guards that number 5-10 compaines of space marines. The chapter has 5,000 marines, 2,000 are on crusade the other 3,000 defend agianst the Ghoul stars. (we are located near the Ghoul stars, Hence why they are called the Last Bastion of Humanity before the darkness.)

Ultramar is just Nebraska in space. Not too bad. One big plot of farm land.
I can't see why people are saying Fenris and Cadia are nice though. Fenris is a deathworld where it's always freezing and snowing, and most of Cadia is made of concrete. Abaddon is always swinging by Cadia as well.

There is no bright in grimdark. It isn't happybright. It isn't grimbright. It is grimDARK.
There are only the slightly less dark grimdark bits.

Yea but everyone on the Cadia is a soldier or is training to be a soldier. Cadia is also like the great wall, except instead of dealing with mongolians, they deal with legions of Daemons, Chaos marines and Abaddon. Instead of defending a country it defends the Segmentum Solar. I think there are only a few not grimdark things in 40k: Tau The stars (Although seeeing how much in the universe isn't under constant war everyday and knowing you'll never be able to go there is pretty grimdark) Anything completely oblivious to war and hatred.
