Where did the other theme come from and why is there only one alternate? I don't really know how much work goes into something like that, but the lighter theme is rather bland. Is it something for people who visit from work?

The bland white background tends to look more generic and less "non-work" than classic theme.

A print friendly / boring theme and a mobile theme are planned for the future. The light one is more work friendly and is the theme dakka had before it was taken over and the black and gold theme added.

Ah, so the light theme was the original.... wait, what do you mean, "taken over"?

Ow, I just switched the theme and hurt my eyes, damn thats bright and won't be doing it again in a hurry.

Look forward to the mobile version, though not sure how its going to look on a mobile, some people write huge posts!
