Hey, this is just to see who likes what kind of game table.

Thoughts?

more specifics, write in.

Edit: no terrain refers to little (10-ish pieces)
Edit: assume the game will be 1,500 points.

6x4 is standard so I voted that. More terrain is always better (obviously has to be reasonable). I cringe at those tables that look like an open desert. The game becomes a lot more stale and a lot less tactical when there is nothing to hide behind.

I also voted for 6x4 since it is the GW standard. If you look into your rulebook it recommends 6-7 pieces of terrain that are roughly 12" x 12" such that 25% of the gaming surface is covered in terrain.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I like nice flowing hills on my table, with plenty of low walls and larger difficult terrain areas, as well as a few taller buildings.

I like a fair bit of terrain as most of my armies are foot slogging, so I enjoy having lots of cover

I am currently building a 4ft by 6ft (can be up to 8 ft but my actual table is not big enough for it, being 3ft by 6ft at the biggest (extendable table, woo!)) modular board in the form of a nice little valley.

Will have lots of extra hill sections with all sorts of stuff on them... trenches, pits, rock spires, etc, as well as all the other bits and pieces of terrain I have.

Should be cool.

Though I would love a 6ft by 8ft table. Plenty of room for every sized game, or even several at once.

Terrain. Definitely terrain. As for size, I voted 4x8 (assuming no space/storage requirements, of course - great at the FLGS, terrible if it would have to replace my bed), as it's also a 4x6 and a 4x4 (heck, lay down a dividing line and it's two!), for all the game sizes I can reasonably imagine playing (at this point, I'd need a doubles game or an alliance of my SM and Orks even to need a 4x8). Anything bigger makes the table too deep for practical play, although I'm sure it would look epic as... a really epic thing.

6x4 is standard for a reason, it's a reasonable size for an average game of 40k. I enjoy lots of terrain; even mechanized armies are more fun to play when they're forced to use tactics.
