Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

Doing my first attempt at basing models, and I'm having troubles. My bases are black - painted the models before putting them on bases. My wife wants pink glitter as her..."flock."

Preparation: I mixed equal parts elmer's glue and water into a dish, and got a semi-sturdy small paintbrush to put it onto the base.

Attempt #1: I painted the water/glue mixture over an unpainted black base with a model on it, then dipped the model into a bowl of glitter. Glitter sticks to everything (no glue required) so I then tapped the model to remove excess/clumped glitter, and used a dry paintbrush to remove it from the edge of the base and from the model's legs.

Attempt #2: I did the same, but instead of dipping the model into the glitter, I took several pinches of glitter and scattered it across the base.

Results: Both look the same. I can see the black through the glitter, so figured this isn't the best idea.

Attempt #3: Since we're using pink glitter, I thought I should probably paint the base pink first. I've got a bottle of baby pink. After putting a coat of paint on and noticing that it didn't cover the black very well, I added a second coat, then a third coat...and I can still see the black through the pink coat...I'm beginning to get discouraged. Worse, although the pants and feet on this particular model are already this shade of pink (meaning that my base-coating isn't affecting the model), most of the other models don't have pink shoes....I'm not sure how to paint bases without hitting the boots, although I could spend some incredibly time-consuming effort removing models from their bases so that I can base-coat them without a model on it (then glue them back on afterwards).

I'd appreciate any input or help at this point.

try getting some glitter paint from balls-mart *applebarrel* Ive got some blue that does a pretty good job covering black in one coat.

you could always paint the base pink by mixing some blood red with skull white, then basing the glitter over it.

i would suggest painting the base dark red, then blood red, then pink.

When i base my models i just use a big cheap brush and "paint" the glue on the base and avoid getting any glue on models feet. I put about 3 or 4 big drops of elmers glue on the base. I don't mix it with water. Then i dip the model in a bowl of floc.

If you get someone to help you its awesome. One person puts glue on the base, one paints the glue, then dips it.

hope this helps

He's being a noob. The paint is light pink and the bases are black. Of course it will take more than 1 coat. Also, the "glitter" I chose isn't really glitter, it looks like pink rocks. It's why I picked it. I love the look.

i wouldnt mix 1:1 glue to water, mayne 2:1 glue water. i would also paint the bases white and mix a lil red paint in with the glue to ad a tint for a lil depth between the rocks and the base then go back with a red or pink glaze or wash.

As for the pink on the bases your best bet would be to rebase them. What I would suggest is pick up some pink spray paint. After removing the models from the bases spray paint them. It would be alot easier then going at it with a brush. Not to mention you would get even coverage

I've begun the long and painful process of removing miniatures from their bases. A lot of the orks are AoBR guys with the slotted bases and the slots glued into the slotted bases. *sighs* 24 orks down (with a few broken off their slots that got filled badly with green stuff).

Hey folks...

So now I have some spraypainted bases, and I painted the bar that extends between the feet the same color. What now?

Do I put the models onto the bases, then apply glue + base? Do I put the base/flock onto the base before putting the model back on it?

I use modeling paste/paint mix to prevent black from showing thru. Mixing the paint in prevents seeing white if it chips later. The paste itsself is fairly easy to apply to the base with a model on it already and gives a nice uneven texture for highlighting the ground. Flock over it and youre done.

try taking the model off the base first. then repainting them white and then red.... you can then flock your bases with out worring about getting glitter on every thing.
