Hey!!

I'm a new W40k player from Nova Scotia, Canada! I played guard about four years ago but without much luck. :(
I purchased the box that came with: 20 guard, 3 heavy weapons, and 1 Leman Russ. I began buying models based on what I liked without much strategy in mind.
Since I'm starting out again, I'd hope not to lose every single game this time around! and I think I'm going to try a mechanized army instead of an infantry-heavy one.

I'm going to order from forgeworld and get the Death Korps of Krieg models but I'm trying to make a 1000 pt list before I randomly order models.
I was thinking that I should buy 4-5 chimeras, one from my HQ, the rest for veteran squads of about 12 men each, and each squad with melta/or/plasma and a heavy bolter. Then fill out the list with Leman Russ varients and Sentinels.

Is this a good idea? or am I overlooking something?

Thanks!!
- Tim!!!

Hi TimothyJamesF!
Making an army list before purchasing any models is a very good call! Especially when ordering Forge World stuff I think that practice is vital to keep the collecting fun and manageable. If you just buy everything you see (and let's face it, most GW and Forgeworld stuff is GORGEOUS!) you will despair and be bitter and even then, not necessarily have an army you like.

I don't know Imperial Guard, and the Forge World stuff for them I've never had the pleasure of facing. I wish you great games and good friends all the days of your life!

Welcome to Dakka. I would highly suggest you put together a list first (you can even submit it for comments and criticism in the relevant 40k list sub-forum here) especially as some of the forgeworld stuff can be pricey.

I tend to regard forgeworld models as something one buys to enhance the look or power of a force, rather than a basis for troops. However if you know you want all Death Korps then go for it, your army will certainly stand out on the gaming table!

Welcome to Dakka and good luck (and wait a couple of months to buy the new Chimeras, looks like newer, probably prettier models are in the pipeline for March/April!)
