Hello everyone! I'm new here so I'll just tell you a little about the army's that I paint (I don't play often since getting a girlfriend and going to Grad school).

I model, paint, collect, and rarely play Warhammer 40,000 Space Orks, many of which used to be Warhammer fantasy Orks, but I lost so often in that game with orks that I quit and converted them to space Orks and never looked back. I loved 3rd, 3.5, and 4th edition, but haven't played the latest edition so don't know how they still play. I have ALOT of space Orks, in excess of 10,000 points at least, enough to field 3-4 fully fleshed out Ork lists with each slot being filled and each squad being a full 30 ork (or grot unit). ALOT of my Orks stuff is converted using both metal, fantasy Ork, and space Ork stuff with some mild to moderate green stuff. The painting still holds up to my current level. I painted them using the factory assembly line method with testors glue, chaos black undercoating, Goblin green for the skin with green ink (I miss green ink and can't find it on Ebay) with Goblin green mixed with at least 50/50 bleached bone for highlights, and boltgun metal drybrushed on the metal parts with brown ink mixed with some black ink washed over that to give them a dirty look. I really had a dynamite Speed Freak list even though I lost ALOT with that list, my army still looked cool doing so.

I pick my army based on the aesthetic quality of the models, and not as much on the playstyle, though I do like the aesthetics of seeing a massive savage/barbaric horde of muscle bound guys outnumbering their counterparts. I like the style of Soviet Russian armies circa 1950 as well. I've never been very good at ANY miniature wargame I've played. I'm more into the collecting, assembling, modeling, and painting aspects of the hobby than the gaming and barely understand the basic rules to each of my army and am horrible at statistics and basic math (I'm a humanities major). I would rather lend my armies out to people who can do them justice at my local game store and win consistently. My gamestore and my apartment is in Cleveland Ohio. and is called Gamer's Haven.

I have a sizeable Lord of the Rings, War of the Ring collection of bands/armies. My armies in that game are Moria Goblins (mainly what came in the original game with very few metal models like captains or specials, and an unpainted plastic balrog (need advice on how to do that). I also play Uruk-Hai, which I have ALOT of points in, with mainly the 2nd box game models with a few metal scout and crossbow Uruks and 3 Isenguard Trolls nicely painted and based, 2 of which are converted, 1 from the Mordor model with some light greenstuff to make it look more Isenguardish. I have some captains and bannermen, as well as a shaman and Lurtz to go with them. My last army is the Last Alliance army with alot of basic box plastic elves, with quite a few metal shield and spear elves, captains, banner elves, and several converted Last Alliance elven calvary models (converted with the legs of the plastic Riders of Rohan). Within that list I still have few Last Alliance men and the King and Prince (forgot their names) because no one will buy them from me.

I'm trying to put together a Warmachine Khador list. I'm working on some Man-O-War Shocktroopers and Man-O-War Hammer guys (because they look cool), a Spriggan (which came without a shoulder armour piece and Man-O-War Kovnik. Still got a ways to go before I have an army that can be played reasonably well though, because I don't have any widowmakers, let alone spellcasters. Not that I care too much if they are tournament ready.

I'm also trying to put together a Hordes Trollbloods list. I finished the starter box and painted them brown instead of blue/white because that looked silly in my opinion (Trolls should be green or brown because they come from the Earth) elves should be blue/white)! I also have the Heavy Warbeast Troll Mauler which I like alot. Not sure what I'll do next, possibly champions or some other unit, and 1 or 2 more Heavy units (any advice would be appreciated).

I dig Rackham's AT-43 game as well, and have a bunch of firesale Kolossi ALOT! and the Red Blok Army starter box. The * and ** Red Blok paintjobs aren't that great, but the *** and especially the big walkers and robots are fantastic and much better than most table ready forces. I redid their eyes and the skin on their faces and tried a snow basing (judge it and let me know if you think it works or not). I have a 2nd Hetman besides the one in the Army box. I like the colors of the Red Blok and am a fan of Space Soviets/Space Russians/Space Communists in general (which is why I like Warmachine: Khador).

I'm thinking on starting a Karmans list as well, because I like Planet of the Apes and LOVE their models (the plastic is too bendy for my tastes, but even the * on the Karmans have pretty decent paint jobs especially on the armour, and just need some mountain jungle/forest basing from the Aquarium aisle at PETCO and a redo of the eyes to rock out.

Welcome to Dakka, and you should definitely play a 5th Ed game with your Orks... they stack up very nicely against most armies, these days!

I actually don't play any of them currently. I just collect, model and paint them because I'm in grad school and got a girlfriend. I never had a group of friends who played over my place or vice versa, so I was always stuck playing after work before the game store closed at 8 or on weekends, and often I would go to the store and there wouldn't be anyone playing the game I wanted.

Mainly I just model and paint, so that when the time comes and I find a cool group to play with in someone's basement gaming paradise, I will bust out my mega armies of destruction!

I have no problem letting people I trust (and trust not to scratch my paint jobs or drop my models when casualties are counted because I hate that) borrow and use my armies. I've developed a "spiritual" connection to them and feel they get sad and lonely when they aren't on the battlefield killing and dying like all good armies should.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't always trust my own generalship to my armies, I put so much work in modeling and painting them and get high marks within my gaming group for my quality of work (not Golden Demon quality) but in the top percentile in my game store, but I rarely win because I choose armies based on how they look and how individual units and models look and not how they play.

I like the look of 9 units of 30 orks each in 40,000, even though that list does horrible because everyone in the store knows I'm the type of guy to do just that so they have the template weapons to deal my beautiful hordes a deadly blow.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Once I played a game where I put all my stuff on a game table, against a similar point on the opposing side.

It was bad, because I couldn't fit my stuff in the deployment zone with all the full 30 ork sized units, and they could barely move 3 inches so squeezed together like they were.
