I'm just about to start painting my new 'nids, but I've hit a dead end with the colour scheme. I'm thinking of just going for plain-old Leviathan, but I'm looking for something a bit more unique than Behemoth, Kraken and Leviathan.

If you could post pictures of other schemes, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,

Valk

The bit stuck on the side of England. Wales isn't it.

I favour the version of kraken often seen at , "The Tyranid Hive" with a black carpace edged in red rather than straight red".

This is my version of Kraken. Its based on a Jerusalem cricket I found my garage one day.

This is what I am doing (sorry for the cell phone picture, it was taken right after I turned it in for the speed painting contest.) It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but just shows that you do not need to conform to the GW schemes.

There are other ones out there that look great, too. I saw a black flesh/dark green carapace model that looked fantastic the other day.

@ChaosDave: That's a good variant of Kraken. Thanks for the idea.

Nice colour schemes! Could you please tell me which colours you used in that scheme?

Thanks,

Tausept Ochre flesh, wash with Gryphonne Sepia, highlight back with Tausept Ochre.

Carapace based Shadow Gray, mix with Space Wolves Gray incrementing until a final step of pure Space Wolves Gray.

Fleshbits and mouth Blazing orange, washed with Agryn and highlighted with Blazing.

Claws and spines based in Khemri and feathered (very quickly, lol) into Bleached Bone.

Why don't you look at some RL insect patterns and see what you like?

That's a good idea. I might incorporate some insect patterns into the carapace.

That Monarch Butterfly army is great, as are the iridescent bugs.

One thing I've wondered is why there hasn't been a Praying Mantis green bug army. That'd be an obvious, and good-looking scheme.

Mine are a pretty bright green with a black carapace. You can definitely see them...

What you need to get your hands on is the 3rd edition codex. It had the best hobby section out of all of the codices. Especially the 5th edition one, the hobby section in the current codex is crap.

You could try one of my schemes that I abandoned...
