Man, I'm really going to miss support for Saga Edition. I love that game...

Hell, I've been running a KotOR-setting campaign for a good year and a half now.

Not impressed...

I would expect that sooner or later (probably sooner if the Clone Wars cartoon continues to do well and the live action series does ok) someone else will pick up the licence... but given the fact that the market is going to be flooded with cheap pre-paints being offloaded by those who will flee the sinking ship, I would expect that the next Star Wars miniatures based game will be something different, in a completely different scale.

Crud. I had a strong dislike of the CMG, but the Saga edition was surprisingly good, even better than the good ol' D6 one in some aspects.

I think the rules are owned by WoC so any other mini game would have to be different.

Aww, man, now I won't get that 17th pose of Darth Vader or Clone Trooper with slighly differant firing pose than the last 10 sets! Seriously though, much as I love Star Wars (and boy do I love Star Wars! It's fraking STAR WARS MAN!!!) I'm surprised the minis lasted so long. Collected the entire first 6 sets or so, and even back then they were starting to run low on new figures, and the game itself was terrible, it was like D&D minis with none of the special abilities and spells that made D&D a decent game (for a pre-paint)

Sucks to hear about the RPG tho, Saga was a great system and has been very popular among everyone that's played it at my shop, even some of the old D6 star wars players finally upgraded to it.

Aww Globbits.

Ah well, hopefully folks will drop out and I'll be able to nab an AT AT for a fair price.

Have no intention of dropping my stuff, still a great game to play with the boys. Hell I just grabbed the Endor pack with a AT ST from Amazon, surprised anyone had any left at £9.99.

I haven't read the article, but is it because they didn't want to renew the license or because
SW didn't want to renew the license?

Translation: Was it too much money for their expected profits?

A pity for those that liked it. I stopped playing anything with a license that can be lost/not renewed after Decipher pissed away the licenses on Star Wars, Star Trek, and LoTR.

And nothing of value was lost.

Maybe now we can get a real SW wargame?

Dammit! Went out and bought Galaxy of Intrigue today and will CERTAINLY buy Unknown Regions as well. Totally pissed Saga Edition is ending. At least we got all the major campaign guides first.

The CMG I'm less sad about, but I'd love to see it come back with the cheap and prepainted, WITHOUT the C of CMG. I hated having to hunt down the figures I wanted for a lousy storm trooper squad or Yuzhong Vong Warrior Caste unit.

Can't they got he route of the D&D minis? Anyways. RIP Saga edition. I'll be picking up what I can as it all goes to piss.

OO thank god I thought it was the MMO for a minute.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Not sure, but crimson skies and shadowrun duels is pretty debatable as a CMG. They weren't blind buys and had continuous runs throughout their printing.

Those are mislabeled as CMG when they are in fact merely prepainted miniature games. They may be collectible now (due to being out of print), but their marketing was never geared towards being collectible.

Blah. I could care less what goes on in wiki. They are nice as a first place to reference when you have no idea about a subject, but after that their usefulness is limited due to their often spurious info.

on to the topic at hand:

I never did play with the SW CMG, but am sorry to see it go if only because they were the only source for SW miniatures.

Hopefully someone will produce miniatures for a SW wargame that isnt blind buy or as collectible. Because lets face it, the only successful blind buy collectible game is the first one, M:tG.

Every other one goes by the way side, even if they have a decent run for sales for a time. They all ultimately fail however. Its too bad Rackham didnt do better with their non blind buy, non collectible prepaints to show the gaming industry a much better way of doing business with such a marketing attempt.

Man first Wizkids kills Mechwarrior Dark Ages by phasing out sets one at a time (this was a very collectible Battletech game, people were nuts for it). When they killed off the playability of the sets, it killed the game.

Now this...

I think most of the deaths of Blind Collectible games is the bad choices of the manufacturers...

If anyone wants to throw thier minis away, send me a tell and I'll take them off your hands.

I'm halfway wondering if we will see the minis turn up again in Heroscape.

When's HASBRO taking over the game?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

They lost me when they stopped Living Force; that was just before the release of the minis. Then the minis came out and then there was a gap until the saga-edition released and I never pick it up again. Kinda good that I didn't.

Unless someone buys the system entire from WotC, as was done with Heroclix when Wizkids folded.

And the sad thing is that the only other company big enough to handle the SW license in miniatures is GW. I guess we'll never see proper stormtrooper miniatures...
