Usually. A couple of the sets had delays of a month or so... which is still pretty 'instant' compared to the wait on some GW FAQ's.

Added to which, WotC's habit of setting up rules gurus on their forums to answer rules queries is a huge bonus. For Star Wars, there was a guy chosen for his knowledge of the rules to answer questions on the forums. Anything sticky that he came across, he could answer in a semi-official capacity and then pass on to the actual writer to include in the next update of the FAQ.

Much more useful than an email or phone-in rules service, since it's trackable. The answer stays on the forums for anyone else to see, and to see where the answer is coming from.

Exactly. That was very handy for rules discussions.

it would be cool if gw got them in a way. putting together models of star wars chracters and vehicles made from gw.

-to many points to bother to count.

Truth is, it would be. Most people who bought the minis didn't ever play the "game". They played SW RPG.

If GW/FFG do a 28mm scale Republic Commando/Trade Federation game in the vein of Necromunda or Space Hulk?

I will buy that.
Many many times.

...You wouldn't?

If you're doing "skirmishes", they'd be fights like Endor or Qiliuria.

no what im saying is your kinda limited with skrimishes. you cant do big battles.

That's kind of the point of having a skirmish game?

Ok. if you have a skrimish game for stuff like star wars. you cant re create the big battles in the univers if you wanted too.

Big battles were *extremely* rare, so it's no big loss.

The Star Wars Miniatures game that WotC has just killed was a skirmish game... and plenty of people have fought Hoth battles using a slightly modified version of the normal rules.

Regardless of what a ruleset is intended for, it can potentially do whatever you want with appropriate modification.

Big battles are rare in Star Wars? I'm going to disagree there. As already pointed out, Hoth, plus Naboo, Geonosis, Ryloth (from TCW), Jabiim, Onderon, Coruscant during the KoToR era several times...

They might be infrequent in the Rebellion era, but that makes sense as the Rebel Alliance is a small group and not in any position to combat Imperial Forces in-force. they have to rely on sabotage, misdirection, blitzkrieg, and other smaller combat oriented tactics.

There are still plenty of large scale battles in Star Wars though.

Not according to WotC's marketing research.

D&D minis sold primarily to the RPG crowd (hence the recent changes to how they are sold). Star Wars was always largely about the miniatures game, or collectors. The RPG crowd was comparatively small.

Seriously? That's shocking considering how lame the mini-game was. I'll admit though, my evidence was anecdotal. I've never met anyone who played with the figures for anything but the RPG.

Is this the game with the prepainted plastic figures that come out of the booster box (so you do not even know what you get when you buy it) with arms, lightsabers and other weapons bent all over the place?

yes, although for the past few years the minis with easily bendable parts like lightsabers have come with little plastic guards to protect them. if anything from the last 4-5 sets is bent, it's the players fault for losing the little plastic guards.

Not entirely. The plastic guards were often fitted incorrectly, resulting in the miniature actually being warped straight out of the booster.

Likewise, they started putting little cardboard holders in between the legs of minis with weaker ankles... but these often slipped out, and the miniature wound up all bent over anyway.

Not a big issue, though, since they're easily straightened with the good ol' hot water treatment.

1 per movie is rare?

Episode 1: The big, if silly, droid/gungan fight
Episode 2: The big fight at the end
Episode 3: The big opening fight
Episode 4: Assaulting the Death Star
Episode 5: Hoth
Episode 6: Assaulting the Death Star (again)

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

I played the miniatures game a lot when it came out and kept buying even when I stopped, but the minis were still great for the RPG.

I've heard the same thing. Suppossedly,WoTC's support for the Star Wars RPG was so bad because they only had the rights to do X amount of Star Wars products per year and they made vastly more off the mini's than they did the RPG. So,they decided to concentrate on the mini-game and let the RPG marginally limp along.

Hopefully, the properties will now go to companies that will at least support them fully.

Imagine how much money GW could make with plastic Stormtrooper kits and beautifull metal Darth Vader, Boba Fett, etc, blisters

Use them to play the Star Wars Miniatures game or the Star Wars RPG?

You don't have to stop playing just because they're no longer making it.

Don't remind me. Last Thursday was the most painful day of my life. They came at midnight.

@ Garret- Do you have a have/wants list? Because I wouldn't mind trading for your SWM. Well if I could get them for free that'd be even better haha.
