Hey, Ive never posted before but hopefully I can start updating regularly with pictures and info on how my new army is coming along.

Hope you like em!

This is my first model, i wanted to start on something bigger to get the general tone and image right. and before anyone asks yes i have done warhammer before this isn't my first model just the first for this army

My own opinion is its a little too dark and more like a dark angel dread than salamander, however that might just be on the legs and feet.

PS: its a WIP

Wow great first post, amazing blending good sir. I look forward to seeing more from you.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Really really nice!
I think it's a tad dark for salamanders thought, but a few chapter emblems or maybe some scales (if you're confident in you free hand) could fix that without changing the colour

The colours may be a little dark for GW Salamanders, but it looks great, so there's nothing stopping you from keeping that as your Salamander scheme if you want to. The Bright bright edges help differentiate it from a DA scheme

This is the "Finished" model, I'm not sure if i want to add anything else atm although i could always change it, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

1 thing i would like, is advice on the shield, do the flames look good enough? does it tie in with the rest of the model? its not glue'd yet i'm still deciding

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I really like the flames, it's a nice change from how you usually see them. And I vote you keep that scheme for your Sallys, I always thought that GW's representation seemed a little too bright considering their fluff.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Looks sweet however you could work a bit more on the shape of the flames. Also if you want it to look more salamander my advice is to paint some flames on the shoulders or maybe the salamander chapter symbol.

Very nice shading/tones/etc.

Impressive!

And no need to go too overboard on "Salamandering" it up, as they strike me as a somewhat austere chapter...

I like your version better - unless you're a fluff purist, you have a good scheme going on. Good paint job

How do you do the shading? Airbrush? It's so flawless.

I like the darkness of the green. But don't make it so dark, maybe lighten it up a bit. But great work, especially on the shield, where did you get it?

The flames look nice, but maybe paint them using shapes other than the cresent, because at first they looked like scales to me.

Just to answer a few questions, the shield was just something from my bit-box nothing fancy and the gold and flames are freehand.

And the shading is done with a brush only, it did take some time but the most important aspect is a gradual lighting of the colour and thin strokes of paint. Also the highlighting is done in roughly the same way.

I bought the next unit on my list today a squad of assault terminators, I should have a picture of them all base coated tonight, and maybe a step by step guide on how I do my shading.

Thanks for all the positive and constructive feedback, ill probably change the shield tonight as well

I like the flames as is. They have an interesting look that's different to how most people do them, and the vaguely scale motif on them fits wonderfully into the Salamander theme.

Ok well my terminators took a little longer to put together than I would have liked.. but meh. first up a question, does the head look out of place? its another addition from my bit-box, but a little small for the body, also the eyes are almost impossible to paint in, would the model be better with a term head painted either white or flame?

I also filed off a few details on the armor (knee, crotch plate) to paint in some free-hand stuff.

Same goes for my dread Ive changed to shield to a nicely blended flame colour and will paint on some details later once Ive practiced painting salamanders dragons etc.

Hey man, I think the blending lloks really nice on the terminator. But I agree with you that the head is a bit off. In story line they either wear helmits, or if their skin is showing its a dark black. All of them have dark black skin, lol every one.

Hmm.. thanks for the tip, its actually alot darker than the photo suggests, but ill change it to helm anyway.

Main reason tbh is i remember seeing a post somewhere, where someone said (only idiots go to war without helmets on)

The pics are way too bright. But the sheild looks cool, and same goes for the termie though a helmeted head with flames would be better.

if you built up some wires etc under the head it'd look much more in-place. like the artwork of belial in the dark angels codex.

Abit of progress today i managed to finish my first terminator and put the rest into positions i'm pretty happy with. I decided to go with a white helmet for the sergeant, looking good? or should i go with flame?
