So I bought a model on Ebay (a GD of Tzeentch) and it has this small gravely stuff on its base painted black. I notice that a LOT of the pro painters use this sort of basing and I'm curious as to what they use for it. Any help is appreciated!

Try the model train section at hobby lobby. They have a lot of different terrain type gravel and sand and grass type things.

Nothing currently, got out of the hobby, maybe getting back in?

^ Stuff to glue sand to bases.
In a separate container use one part glue with 5 parts water you want it thin as milk and add one drop of dish soap this breaks the water tension.
Putting the watered down glue in a container that can be shook is a good way to mix it
Paint strait glue on the base dip the base in the sand to cover the glue let dry.
with an old brush paint the thinned glue over the sand let dry.
Prime the base and figure.
