So far i have collected 3 companies of marines and my family says i have too much. Do you think that this is alot. In game terms its alot. But Fluff Wise, its very small, and i'm trying to make 4 compaines that need to be made.

For example should i keep buying models?

Or should I stop and say that I have enough models wise?

The main thing i'm trying to tell my family is that i need models to replace old models that look horrible so i can personiliaze my army alot. (they are from 2nd-3rd edition of 40k.)

Is this too confusing or should I sum it up?

Any Suggestions?

No such thing as too much, if you want it, can afford it, have space, I see no reason as to why you cant keep building your army up even if just for the spectacle of 400 marines kicking ass

4000 pts, 4000pts, 4000pts, 2000pts,
1500pts, (daemons)2000pts, 4500pts, 3170pts, 1500pts, 2500pts, 1850pts

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

Well it depends from your sig it says you have 380 marines and 12k points worth that sounds like a pretty hefty army but really isnt plus you have a sprinkling of Eldar also.
Also what does your workspace and storage area for your armies look like? Maybe if you clean those areas up and tidied that would change their outlook on your hobby and leave you alone for a bit. I try to keep my areas as clean as possible so that way my wife is happy with me. I have over 500+ models but they are kept as nice and neat as possible.

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

Well, are all those models painted? If not, then I suggest not buying anything else until they're all painted. If you still have the enthusiasm to keep painting and modeling these guys, go for it. I'm aiming for a full company of Crimson Fists soon, but I don't really have any desire to collect more than that.

Well i do keep them nice and tidy. But my painting room is a mess thanks to all the crap my parents have bought that they don't need. So my painting station is horrible. But my models and the view areas for my armies are reasonbly kept not a single model has been broken by accident so far. (broke some on purpose, i hated one of the arms.)
The main reason why i want to collect more models is to improve on my painting.

No , Only 10 are fully painted and are still being worked on. The Reason is because i have found no time to paint. Every time I try i accidently mix the Paints : O.

My paint Scheme is so hard i've only been able to do it on my Segearnt when i finnaly understood how. He is my best model so far. But it seems that my time restrains have limited me from painting alot of models.

A model takes my 1 1/2- 2 hours tops.

I also want to make my last company the 22nd which is a unquie battle company in that all of them are stealth units (Night lords rip-off) and i wish to complete most of my space marines before i move on to the very hard stuff like all of my captains, libarians, Chapter Masters, and My soon to be grey knights.

My army has grown to around 400 but 15 of them are grey knights. I wish to inculde more Grey knights ever since my chapter has 10 for each company according to my chapter's loer they use so called Guardian squads to teleport in and kill chaos forces daemons or any other chaotic creature. hence why i need Grey knights in order to go along the lore.

I also am starting to build a Fortress of Ignatus down in my basement. problem is that i need more bitz .

Paint 'em up. If you're paint scheme takes you 1.5+hours per model then design a simpler paint scheme and paint ALL of your models. Then you can go back and do detail later. Try using washes, they make shading quick and painless and it still looks really good. Start at 3 colors then go from there.

Mind posting your paint scheme? It's pretty likely that it could be simplified by some of the more experienced painters here on Dakka.

Behind you

The only thing I gotta say is that you should collect tons of models like guards instead of marines
First they are cheaper, second you might actually have a chance to use them all at once

Holy crapola.... 380 marines and just 10 painted!?

I have 150 and many are BADLY PAINTED and I need to make them over again, but damn.... if you have so many marines just get a grip of the paint and waste time over it.

It's worth it rather than looking at some pale grey miniatures.

EDIT

I have to paint many models but I am having almost enough of buying troops. I can field 7500 / 8000 points and I just made it ONCE! I loved it but it's a hard way to play.

DOUBLE EDIT

by the way... what are you going to use for all that stuff?!

I've bought my last models from GW on October 10th, 2011. Since then I've bought none, I am against their price policy. Screw them.

I agree with the needing to paint. I need to do that myself. I'm trying to come up with a system where I paint 20 or 30 models and then reward myself with 10 more. Then paint those 10 and 20 more. Compensated for size so that vehicles count as more points and such. If I can stick to my rough idea of a plan it will take me 1 year to get everything I have painted and allow me to add 120 new models. Collecting is fun, but getting them finished is even more enjoyable.

As far as actual painting. How I practiced when I was new was to use metal minis and strip the paint and repaint it. Repeat. You get better. With the large size you have model wise you could just paint and paint.

As far as the total size of your army. It's up to you. I want to eventually go for a full company of each army I play. Not sure what the Eldar equivilent is at the moment, but I want to go for that. No one can tell you how many is enough, but it's easier to justify if it's painted.

4,000 (94% Painted)
1,000 (74% Painted)

Well, if you're buying the miniatures out of your own money, then it's your business. If your folks are funding you, then it's their business. It's basically that simple.
