New Chimera? Check.
Separate tracks? Check - nice one.
Weapon Options? Check.
New Basilisk? Check.
Separate tracks? Check - ditto.
Weapon Options?...

And where exactly are the variants (anyone says FW, they get a slap)?
Am I wrong to massively disappointed by this (not surprised - just disappointed)?

"Easy"? Sure. Satisfying, not so much. The Medusa, for example, is a completely different kind of animal to the Basilisk. For one thing, it's a direct-fire cannon, so a Basilisk's elevation rig and giant gun shield just look daft on it.

Imo expecting multiple variants in the Basilisk box, while a great idea for players, doesn't make much sense from a business end since each variant will likely require a lot of plastic, sprue space, and box space.
At least the Planetstrike bastions come up with Autocannons that would help in a Hydra conversion. Using Warhammer Fantasy cannons and plastic tubing are other alternatives than FW but will require converting (duh).

Basilisk: 5 US$ increase, 10 CAD$ increase.
Chimera: Same US$ price, 2 CAD$ reduction.
...what?
Anyways, I'm underwhelmed by the basilisk kit. I don't think being easier to assemble justifies a 10$ price increase. The chimera kit is better I guess, but it doesn't even have all the required wargear (searchlight, anyone?). Overall, I would of preferred to keep both old kits. I knew I shouldn't of waited to buy my transports...

Looking at the sprue pictures on GW's site it looks like the search light is present. Unless I am mistaken it is the round bit almost dead center to the sprue (to the right of the smoke canisters and left of the dozer blade).
Like everyone else I am really disappointed by the Basilisk kit.

It's a Basilisk kit for the price of a Basilisk. Don't know if switching out the tracks is worth making a big deal over. If they've taken out the gun crew sprue than that is slightly annoying.

I am a bit surprised they didn't offer at least one of the variants as "stock build" in the new kit like they did with the LR Demolisher kit. I can see not putting in the mortar variants, but it'd make sense to have the Bassie and Medusa in one kit.

Agreed; considering what GW was doing with the Demolisher kit and Hell Hound kit, you'd think they would do something similar with the Basilisk.
However, with that being said, I'm not sure they really could have done anything with it, except maybe a Griffon Mortar....? I have the FW Medusa conversion kit and it uses a Vanaheim pattern gunshield in place of the standard Basilisk one....it's about one third the size of the original. Plus, it was a pain to mount if you used the old track-guards with it. Without it, it's fine though.
I was hoping for a a possible Basilisk/Griffon kit, Hydra/Manticore....and maybe a Chimera/Medusa or Chimera/Deathstrike..... lol! But I guess this may be as far as they go with packing multiple variant kits this time....

I disagree with the claim that releasing a basilisk/medusa kit wouldn't make sense. The basilisk is one of the weakest HS options in the codex, and increasing the price (while offering truly negligible benefits for said price increase) won't do anything to encourage sales. Adding a dollar's worth of plastic for a medusa siege cannon will definitely give a reason for people to pick it up. At present, all we're getting is less plastic for more money, an unfortunately common trend for GW recently...

When is it going to dawn on people that, for years now, GW is a business being run for the benifit of the shareholders not the customers. The more profit the better. They know we're a bunch of whingers but they also know we're a bunch of whingers who will still spend their money...
The only way it will all stop is if people stop buying, but because people want it because its shiny and new, or they 'need that one' rather than a cheaper stand in, or they give in to peer pressure that will never happen.
The more it carries on the more GW will do it as well as other companies joining in as well, look at PP...

Rumours of new Basilisk kit were misleading because, to be honest, there is nothing new in it. Basilisk bits are the old ones, it's just the chimera chassis that was replaced with the one released last year. I am actually surprised to see that Eartshaker platform bits were not recut into one sprue similar to Hellhound bits. It would have allowed GW to drop two more old sprues from production and present the whole kit in two sprues, just like Hellhound, Demolisher and Chimera. A missed opportunity and disappointing release this "new" basilisk.
I have nothing bad to say about Chimera. It is pretty much as I expected. My only gripe is that multilaser still looks a bit silly and unlike sponson heavy bolter, turret heavy bolter doesn't come pre-hollowed. Either way, I would be happy to buy many of these.

It just seems a waste to me. Why didnt they add in diffrent variants? How does two recut models that look almost exactly the same as the old ones increase sales? People want models they dont own, its not like they are going to say hmm wow my old Chimera looks slightly diffrent than the new one I should replace it. The diffrence it to small and with no new variants they wont increase sales at all.

Well if you want to talk about wasted sprue space.... that's the "new" Earthshaker kit. You could easily fit the weapon mount and weapon on the same sprue. I think this suggests that they very well might have different kits in the future.
In general I am disappointed in GW's handling of the vehicle releases for IG. We still don't have the other Leman Russ varients, a Hydra, Manticore, Combat Pyskers, or even the Vendetta. I do not, nor will I ever, count Forge World items as GW supplied or considered ever since they had axed the Griffon, Exterminator, and Vanquisher from the old IG codex because they never supplied the Vanquisher and they canceled the other two and claimed they would not longer include non-GW supplied models in codices.

Was the hull heavy bolter once on the lower hull sprue on the Chimera and Basilisk kit, the one that was just merged with the track sprues? It seems to have moved to the upper hull sprue on the chimera. That might pose a problem because the new Basilisk kit doesn't share that sprue with the Chimera and updating its hull and track sprues eliminates that piece from the kit.

Wow! Good catch! The Basilisk kit doesn't come with a hull mounted Heavy Bolter by the look of the sprues! It just has the old tank accessory sprue with the hull Heavy Flamer.... that's pretty crappy... Not only that, but the Chimera doesn't look like it comes with a cupola mount for a Heavy Stubber or Storm Bolter.

Exactly. I really don't see the point of this kit. Most IG folks have Basilisk(s) already Just adding one additional gun would have made IG players give it a second look, as it is now all you get is less.

I disagree. Dropping the price by 2 bucks is nice, but there's not nearly as many options for customizing/equipping. About the only interesting bit is the bolt pistol hand.

I know some players still like the Basilisk, but I haven't seen a single one in a guard army 'round my parts since the new codex came out (since 5th ed came out, actually). I don't see how making it more expensive makes good financial sense for GWs shareholders. Sure, they're getting more profit per kit sold, but they aren't selling as many kits.

Yeah, but pretty much inevitable the way they're half-assing this. On the Basilisk they're merging the lower hull and tracks sprues and not changing anything else. If they had redone the top too like they did with the Chimera they could've avoided this problem and eliminated the vehicle accessory sprue in a stroke. It might also have been possible to put the hull weapons on the same sprue as the lower hull and save some effort later on when they use these exact same parts for every single Chimera style vehicle, but that sprue's already pretty crowded.

My thoughts exactly. If they had just included one more main gun It would essentially be a "new" kit, and lots of current IG players would be scrambling to pick one (or 5) of them up. As it is it's essentially the same kit we already have, with less options, for more $.
Well, at least I can have no regrets about scooping up 3 used Bassies on BTown last week.

I have identified every piece necessary to add a pintle heavy stubber or stormbolter in the new chimera kit. Are you talking about something else?
One thing that does bother me is the crewman. You only get one body option and the only right hands available have ridiculous nonfunctional pistols. Imagine modeling a heavy stubber with that guy, he'd be shooting his machine gun left-handed while uselessly waving a laspistol around in his other hand. That would probably look pretty stupid.

The Tank Commander, cuppola and Heavy Stubber/Storm Bolter options are on the upper hull sprue. Not only is the Basilisk missing the hull mounted Heavy Bolter but it also keeps the old Heavy Flamer, so it doesn't even mirror the new design on the Chimera.
The new Chimera doesn't 'wow' me but it isn't a bad kit. However, I am quite disappointed by the Basilisk kit as they just appear to have chucked it together with the new Chimera hull. I don't understand why they would remove the accessory sprue from other kits, merge elements of it in the Chimera kit but then just throw the old design back in with Basil.
Edit: Must stop getting sidetracked while typing and end up repeating what soemone else has said!
