Yeah, pretty half-hassed in all. Probably would have been better to wait a bit and do a proper update.
The new Chimera doesn't 'wow' me but it isn't a bad kit. However, I am quite disappointed by the Basilisk kit as they just appear to have chucked it together with the new Chimera hull. I don't understand why they would remove the accessory sprue from other kits, merge elements of it in the Chimera kit but then just throw the old design back in with Basil.

Edit: Must stop getting sidetracked while typing and end up repeating what soemone else has said!
Yeah, pretty much.

My mistake. It looks like the cupola is upside-down and it took me a fresh day's look to find the support frame bit.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Raxmei wrote:One thing that does bother me is the crewman. You only get one body option and the only right hands available have ridiculous nonfunctional pistols. Imagine modeling a heavy stubber with that guy, he'd be shooting his machine gun left-handed while uselessly waving a laspistol around in his other hand. That would probably look pretty stupid.

You're right. It doesn't come with the 'Shooting a Heavy Stubber' set of arms, that single piece thing you get on the Accessory Sprue and the Heavy Weapon Team sprue.

That's hilarious.

Wow these are lazy, lazy designs.

I don't see any crew sprues for the basilisks either. What a waste of a kit

The basilisk is one of the weakest HS options in the codex,

I am going to go ahead and disagree with you there. My basilisks have been instilling the fear of the emperor in all my opponents. I run a 5 basilisk mechanized list (1500 points) and I have won three tournaments and remain undefeated with this army in tournament and casual play

-Any terrain containing Sly Marbo is dangerous terrain.
-Sly Marbo once played an objective mission just to see what it was like to not meet every victory condition on his own.
-Sly Marbo bought a third edition rulebook just to play meat grinder as the attacker.
-Marbo doesn't need an Eldar farseer as an ally; his enemies are already doomed
-Sly Marbo was originally armed with a power weapon, but he dropped it while assaulting a space marine command squad just so his enemies could feel pain
-Sly Marbo still attacks the front armor value in assault, for pity's sake.

Just noticed something odd. The Chimera kit appears to contain two sets of a piece that it doesn't use. You know the hatch above the hull mount on a Basilisk, the one that the upper hull piece covers on the Chimera? It's on the top of the upper hull sprue just to the right of the door and also on the bottom center of the lower hull and tracks sprue. The one on the lower hull sprue has a good reason for being there but I'm at a loss to explain what it's doing on the upper hull sprue.

Btw, something's been bugging me for a while. The pictures of completed Chimeras all show two aquilas, one on the side of the turret and another just above the driver's hatch but I can only find one aquila on the sprue. Is the one on the turret molded on? I can't tell from the picture.

Good catch. It does come with two... and for no apparent reason.

Who designed these sprues? They're horrendous!

Mostly, on my phone.

I'm sure the Hellhound etc kit came with a redundant part, which fuelled speculation then about it being the base model for griffon et al. Maybe there's still hope - or maybe GW just like to mess with us because they think it's funny.

The generic Chimera Chassis sprue has parts that the Chimera doesn't use (and, by extension, neither does the Hellhound). They're for the Basilisk and this has always been the case. I've got stacks of little plastic sheets that are meant to go with the Basilisk/old metal Griffon kits that never got used because I don't own 15 Basilisks. We're talking about small hatches that the Chimera doesn't ever use coming on the actual Chimera sprue, the new one. It's very strange.

I'm calling it now. Next year, GW is going to release a 55 USD artillery kit with options for the medusa, colossus, snd griffin. This release was for the sole purpose of jacking up the price so we don't balk at a $15 price increase later on down the road.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant the new hellhound kit has a couple of random extra bits...

On the Hellhound sprue, or on the 'tracks and hull' sprue?

Well i was hoping to see the Basalisk going the way of the hellhound and russ, but it hasent. pretty silly not to include varients for it. I wonder why they dont fallow a standard buisness template. is it really so hard to have consistancy? its one thing i was intrested in about the kit.

*sigh* Good ol GW. *Slap* Fraggin idiots.

The latter, IIRC.

Nope, now to give your tank that extra bit of uniqueness, you've got to purchase the accessory sprue separately...

...for 15 dollars!

You read right, to put together the tank the way you used to isn't just a 2 dollar increase, it's a 17 dollar increase!

Hmmm... Maybe I'm missing something, but when you look at the sprues for the Basilisk up on Advance Order right now, it shows the accessory sprue in the preview shots (4th one in, second picture of a sprue).

The Basilisk comes with the accessory sprue (and increased price). They stopped including it in the Chimera kit (which remained $35) and the Demolisher kit (Which, admittedly, got .5 USD cheaper).
