Nice 3 tone desert camo

Nice pattern. I feel the green could be a little darker/more obvious. At a distance I don't think it'll show (although you'll be better to judge as it's there with you).

I don't think it needs white. Little flecks are an option, but not necessary.

Thanks shaso and dr. H. I think it'll stay the way it is for now. Might hit the armor with another wash in the recesses to try and get more pop from it.

My kids are off school today, so we swung overto grandmas house, while they hang with grandma I'm headed to the GW store. Been there once before, wasn't impressed, and what I see throught the front window I'm still not. They open in ten minutes and the guy has seen me standing outside for the last half hour. Good thing there's a sub shop next door, I can get lunch out of the way.

I went to the Denton store while on my way to the FLGS and they were closed. Why would you just be closed on a Tuesday and Wednesday? And then only be open after 2?

Also to hell with one man stores that kick you out when they want to go to lunch.

So as I was typing my last little post a teenager with his grandparents walk up and try the door, still locked, but the mployees sees grandparents and $$$$ so opens up for them . I walked in too and began shopping. Listened in on him trying to sell the new hhhobbyist a tyranids codex, I almost jumped in to tell him it will be outdated in a couple months, but I bite my tongue. The kid got a battle force and hive tyrant, primer , glue , and a couple pots of paint . Total was over $200.00 easy.

GW idea of a one man store is stupid, but I guess I works good enough to cash in on the uninformed, and those new to the hobby. I didn't buy anything, even gave the guy an opportunity as I told him I wanted to build a new army, but couldn't decide on which one. He was distracted by a regular coming in for a game, I guess they have Friday night tournaments.

Not much time yesterday with the kids off school, but I I'd lay down some base coats last night/this morning. This is my last weekend before going back to work, so will be pending time with the family .

The yellow gets toned down a lot when I do the white edge highlights on the yellow and the German grey and celestra grey highlights on the black.

Here's where the vindicator is at, pretty well done except for hatches.

@cam, I always wanted to o a happy face marine chapter, then I wanted to do the mr. Yuck chaos version, then an angry marines chapter, just keep going with the motif.

After messing with my side project, I remember that I dropped it for a reason it is frustrating. Will probably be painting tonight after church and before bed.

You are churning out some serious marines very fast Theo! that yellow is jealousy inducing!! but it all looks awesome and i'm getting ready for a army shot soon! :-)

@nafarious, and they just Reid the blood angel codex as an ibook , I dont think there's new, just updated for 6th edition.

@nerdfest, much like you I just cleaned some shelves to make space. I'll get a Jammed pic up post haste.

In the mean time, I started a drop pod repaint, but need input. I think the colors are too......not sure, too much yellow on the whole, or do you think this is good right now. This is not h final yellow stage just my blocked in colors. Should the top yellow fins be different color, or the side fins be changed, or keep it as is? Need quick response before I get too far.

What's on the desk, 6 assault marines base coated. 4 deathwatch sternguard in their scythe of the emperor colors, and 10 dreamforge guys with their yellow basecoat.

I think maybe change the top fin section. But it actually does not look too bad as is.

This summer, at GenCon, the GM for our Apocalypse game was using the ipad 40k rulebook. It was surprisingly intuitive to use. Much more than a simple PDF, it had a very useful search feature. There is just something about having a paper book in your hands though....

I don't think the whole of the top fins need to change colour, but they could do with an additional colour somewhere...

@dr. H, thanks, the pod will have white eagles on it and the tactical symbols will be white as well.
@dave, I got the hardcover book, I tried one of the free I books, I liked it, but I like paper more.
@cam, I guess I need to show off all the marine madness again, its been a while.

Here's some fin options. I think I'm leaning towards black with the internal yellow stripe.

But there's also white

try keeping the fins yellow and painting the bit you called the 'internal stripe' boltgun metal (or is it leadbelcher?)

the coulor scheme looks good; adding some metallic parts might couter-balance the yellow?

maybe the little linkages between the fins and the main body of the pod could go metallic as well? and maybe the stuff you left unpainted could look good metallic (with heat dicouloration round the vents perhaps?

but, at the end of the day; its your model mate - paint it how you like it.
the moment you start worrying about what people think is the moment you are dancing to someone else's tune - screw that.

@sirdonald, welcome to the thread of insanity , thanks for the suggestion. There will be plenty of leadbelcher going onto the model so I think your right with that breaking things up a little.

Got the yellows done, and the fins sorted.


I need to stretch, and get a new brush or two. Maybe some more yellow and black paint, for some reason those keep disappearing . I'm trying not to breakdown and buy any new models, the only marine ones I don't have are centurions, and I really dislike those, but I keep wondering if I could mod them somehow to make them look decent.

Yea I got their new codex Theo, nothing different just fancy I guess that is how GW makes their money though

I am thinking about picking up four boxes of Death Co. and a box of Sanguinary and just going to town on them.

@vik, they pidgeon holed these dumb things into the history. They are exposure for on top of the power armor. They are to lay down withering amounts of fire, and look silly in the process. There are also assault versions of them.

Well just got to one of the flgs that I usually don go to. They open in ten minutes. I've only been here three times in the twenty years it's been opened. It's just out of the way. But it is the only place I ever saw man o war being played, that was fifteen years ago though.

Holy wall of land raiders. Great painting work theo. Also if you need to lend (read as send) some land raiders, my emperors children be happy to turn them purple .
