If I include Boss Zagstrukk, does the cost become 19x12=228+85 or is he like a nob an upgrade and do i need to pay 20x12=240+85?

It's a point of contention in the codex.

Many players believe that the 'the mob may be led by' does not imply that zagstruck is an upgrade from a nob or boy, and that he just disallows the nob upgrade.

Others believe that he is an upgrade from a boy 'instead of a nob'.

There's a similar problem with Snikrot, and I've seen both ways argued and accepted at local tournies.
Now that I'm thinking about it I think I'll add it to the INAT suggestions later.

In my experiance as it doesn't state that it's a model (boy upgrade) then he is in addition to the squad size.
Either way however (if he was an upgrade) the total cost for the squad would remain the same, your still paying for 20 boys and a Zag or Snikt.

The language of the codex is important here. A nob is specifically noted to be an upgrade for a boy.

Zagstruk is noted to be taken instead of a nob.

Your choices:

Stormboy, no upgrade.
Nob (upgrade Stormboy #20 with a nob)
Zagstruk (Replace Stormboy #20 with Zagstruk).

He isn't an upgrade, he's an alternative.

I feel the telling point here is the lack of a '+' in front of Zagstruk's cost, implying to me that he is not an upgrade, where as a nob is boy cost + nob cost.

So, to answer the question, I'd run it as (19 x 12) + 85 for 20 models total.

I would agree to this, which is the same as Dash's interpretation. I assume max size is twenty and you can either replace 1 with a nob or replace 1 with Zagstrukk.

I realize that I am resurrecting something old, but I just starting playing, and am using orks.


I feel that by codex wording, you should be able to have a squad of 20 stormboyz AND include Zagstrukk if you choose.

I agree with the fact that he is NOT an upgrade, as it is not stated and does not include a "+" sign before the points cost. The fact that he is not an upgrade leads me to understand that he is not included in the squad limitation of 20.

The Composition itself states that the unit or mob is 5-20 stormboyz. A nob is an upgrade. Zagstrukk is not.

20+Zagstrukk. Anyone else follow this with me, or am I on my own?

"instead of a nob" excludes having a nob.... the nob is replaced by Zag IMO ... why is that? because you take Zag instead of a nob 20 zag + 19 boys
