Hey guys,

So I am considering buying a realms of battle board. I would like you're input on this.

Background:
- I live in a modest sized studio apartment (500 sq ft)
- I would have liked to made my own out of masonite etc, but I don't have access to the workspace or power tools. Anyone have thoughts on that?

Specific questions:
- How durable is it?
- How easy is it to store? (I know it is 6 2X2 foot pieces, should fit easily into a closet or under a bed)
- How easily is it painted/modeled?
- Does it get boring quickly?
- If you do have one (or a similar board system) how often do you use it?

Thanks!

Oh, here and there.

Ir's pretty cool. My friend has one; it seems really durable. And it's modular, so it doesn't get too boring.

I would say(depending on where you live and the accessibility of pink foam) that you just make your own. Home Depot will cut a plywood sheet into 2'x2' sections for you, then you just cut your foam, glue it down and make some terrain for it. I'm doing this to a degree, as I'm having a 2' gaming table/cabinet made that will fit a 2' section on the top that fits inside a 1" tall lip and can store 5 2' sections inside of it for changing them out for small games and store them until being used on a larger table.

Still modular, but without the huge price tag and slowed skulls.

I have one of my own:

- How durable is it?
Very durable

- How easy is it to store? (I know it is 6 2X2 foot pieces, should fit easily into a closet or under a bed)
Under the bed no problem, in a closet depending on the width and depth I guess. I have mine in the closet, but its 60x60 cm so I need to have it on the diagonal, hence taking lots of space in the closet.

- How easily is it painted/modeled?
I painted mine in 3 days, including flocking. I bought the painting kit aswell from GW and used that. Plus Codex grey and Fortres gray for stones.

- Does it get boring quickly?
Nope. If you have some terrain pieces, like buildings and so on, it never gets boring.

- If you do have one (or a similar board system) how often do you use it?
I always use it when we play.

Negative is the price tag

I have one, mainly because I lack the skill necessary to build one of my own. In terms of time, effort and frustration, the cost was worth it to me for not having to go through the anguish of self-build. As to your questions:

- How durable is it?

Seems very sturdy, although the clips used to clip the tiles together seem somewhat fiddly

- How easy is it to store? (I know it is 6 2X2 foot pieces, should fit easily into a closet or under a bed)

I recently bought my own house and am lucky enough to have a dedicated gaming room that I negotiated with the misses. So mine is permanently assembled.

- How easily is it painted/modeled?

For a modelling slow like me; surprisingly so. I followed Panic's guide:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Terrain:_GW_Realm_Of_Battle_Board:_Standard

Adapted it slightly for my own ends - with the wife's help , it took 2 days.

- Does it get boring quickly?

I'm inclined to think not since there are enough combinations for me and I use terrain to create the variance rather than geography.

- If you do have one (or a similar board system) how often do you use it?

I use nothing else. My advice would be, if you have the money to spare, then go for it.
