Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

Is a display board meant to have dual purposes of show-casing your army and acting as a moving tray as well? My wife has a great idea for a display board, and they seem to be components of a lot of RTTs and GTs. I've been using cookie sheets to move my army from one table to another; it takes two full cookie sheets for me to move 1850 worth of orks. Is a display board supposed to serve that function? The board she had in mind is creative; it would be a quarry on a planetary surface with gretchin mining out a precious metal (purpleanium) which all her orks use for weapons.

Making a quarry on a display board, multi-leveled as it would need to be wouldn't lend itself well to fitting very many models on and around it...so if its doubling as a moving tray, the quarry idea is out. Thoughts appreciated.

In short, No. But.....
Movement trays built into a display board would be a possibility and would make the board far more flexible.
Give it a go and let us know how it turns out.

So if you aren't using your display board as a moving tray, do you bring cookie sheets too?

Generally I see display boards serving double duty as a quasi movement tray. When you consider that the purpose of the board is to have a themed place to show off your whole army, it's just kind of a by-product to be able to pick up the whole assembly and haul it to your next table. You start straying into diorama territory when your board only shows some of the models in your army.

You can still go with the rock quarry idea. Instead of trying to build the whole pit that you look down into (if that's what you were even thinking), try building a flat board with a back-drop of the quarry walls and mine tunnels. Then you can have grotz whizzing about in the background, and still have a place to put all your boyz and kit. You could even make an alternate model of your warboss for display only, throttling the gretchin mine foreman for not pulling up the unobtainium... er, purpleanium, fast enough!

Ok, I get it now.
Sorry it was late when I replied last night.

Some important definitions.....
Display board= Pretty thing used to win best painted in a tournie.
Movement Tray= In game aid more commonly used in wfb that allow a unit to be moved as a whole.
Moving Tray= Cookie/cafeteria trays used to place casualties and move models between tables at tournies.

So yeah. A carefully designed display board could double as a moving tray and contain movement trays also.

Your idea, however, sounds like it would give you a hernia lugging it between tables for a few days.
Best leave it in the car and bring it out for judging/viewing periods and use seperate moving trays throughout the day.

I think i've got it now.
Hope this helped?

You don't need this one just an Idea as a base for the tray.

They sell this in 1 foot square sheets you can use this to make the cliff face by stacking it up with broken off edges for the front to make it look like rock.

Use this to fill in the joints between the cork to make it look like one solid rock face.

They have cheaper versions of this to put the finished tray on then you just wheel it to each table between games.
