Hey guys,
After reading some of the recent posts in the threads in this forum, I kept reading about different TFG, it seems. Well, around my FLGS its a Nid player. He insists his rules are correct. He will try to pull one over on you and then, when you call him out on it, he stammers, "Oh, it must've worked differently in the other version." And you're standing there saying, ". . . .yeah. . ." Not only that, but if you're in a tournament with him and things are going his way near the end of the tournament (be it end of the time limit, or near the end of the turn count), he'll suddenly get tired and need to "take a break", as if to call the game then and there. But, if things aren't going his way, watch out. Red-faced with ire, he's standing across the table fuming at you, asking you how and why something worked the way it did.
I don't mind social problems like anxiety or rage. I really don't. But know your rules. And I'm not saying I'm perfect - I've gotten mixed up a time or two, but I remember for the next time. This guy seems to never know his rules or, at the very least, have his own version of his rules. It's to the point that no one in our club cares to play him (or at the FLGS, I'd imagine). And he's talked about running his own tournament. Yikes.
Anyway, it's always fun to read about mishaps in the game, poor dice rolls, bad luck, molested models, poor judgements and games that didn't go your way. I was curious how widespread TFG is. Does he have a splinter cell in every FLGS? Has he infiltrated every game of 40K and WFB? Is it a byproduct of social tempering or is it the "need" to win, at all costs? Do you know a TFG? Are you TFG?
Who's your TFG?

Oooh fun, a TFG thread, I just got a new TFG story, too.
Well my friends just played an older TFG in a team game. He tried to argue the whole game that the entire shooting phase happens simultaneously, so you couldn't pop a transport than waste the occupants when they piled out in the same turn or Lash a unit then template them. I came over to start arguing with him about it and he started making ridiculous claims: like it's always been like that since 2nd. When I called BS, he said it actually was in the Errata. When I checked the Errata and said I had never ever heard anyone play like that, he said it actually was one of the obscure rule that everyone ignores. I just walked away, at that point.
After the game we found out he was miraculously overpointed by a 1000 pts. I wasn't particularly shocked when I found that out.
Also I got 5 big ones that say competitive players will be compared to TFGs by page 2.

Last tourney I was in, the TFG didn't like the "special" rules of the tournament scenerio. By the way, he was perfectly fine with the rules when he thought they were going to handicap me. BUT as soon as he found out that his army was equally handicapped, he staretd pitching a fit about how the tourney organizer didn't know what he was doing, etc, etc. He actually insulted the tourney organizer, to his face, during our game, after he called the TO over to complain. The TO told him that if he didn't like his tournies then he could excuse himself from ever attending them in the future.
Then the TFG started ranting about how he would go to the store owner, etc.etc. Anyway the whole game, he would just move his models the way he wanted, even though he was violating the special rules. It was quite amusing, in a sad sort of way, because he just blatantly didn't care that he was cheating. He rollled his dice fast, and when I called him out on it, he just ignored me. When the special rule effected him negatively he would roll his eyes and his face would fill with rage.
Bah..... it was a total mess.

I was playing a 500 point tourny with my tau against eldar. My army was completely painted and he goes, "Oh, is that painted? Couldn't tell. Mine is propainted." His stuff was messy, globbed on and I could see the white base coat on his dark reapers.
Moving into the second round it was clear that he was still in 4th edition when my kroot outflanked his army. He saw them come on the side of the board and screams at the top of his lungs, "YOU CAN'T PUT THEM THERE!" I calmly pulled out my rule book and said I could. He start to say I was cheating and that I should be kicked out of the tourny for it. I asked for someone that wasn't involved with the game to make a ruling.
The ruling came out in my favor of course since kroot can out flank since they are scouts. He got quiet, put his dice down and said, "Just ing roll. I don't care now. It is not fair." I never heard a non-Tau player saying that Tau rules were "not fair". I never saw TFG again. What a pain in the

1. I wasn't playing. 2. I didn't know how many points they were playing. 3. Also, I haven't even looked at the SW codex, which was what he was playing.

I have a local TFG and a long-distance TFG. I think they are members of the same TFG Union or something.
Local: Created a 2" mini spacer so that he will be minimally affected by templates (and to measure hth). I would be ok with this except that it doubles the amount of time it takes him to do anything. He also threatened to not play a game with me because we only had 4'x6' tables and he likes to play on 4'x8' tables.
Long-distance: Total D-bag. Has been banned from Fantasy tournaments and is probably one complaint from being banned from 40k tournaments. He doesn't talk, he yells. I mean I'm generally a very calm person, but I've had to ask him to be quiet before.
*If this tells you anything he has multiple airbrushed Warhammer-themed white t-shirts.

Happy to say that TFG has never really been a problem in my local GW. Sure, there's a few people who can be described as loud/waac/insulting but never past the point where a quick telling off fails to sort out the situation.
TBH, the most annoying thing is finding out mid-game that my opponent is using some crazy forgeworld rules that i have never heard of (pesky-assault-cannon-spraying drop pods)!
Maybe we need to construct a sliding scale of TFG? Like a 1-10 rating system with points scored for certain types of behaviour? For example, a 'TFG1' would be someone who gets distracted easily and shows a proper lack of attention. Whereas a TFG6 would be someone who has an allergy to soap and a tendency to roll his dice too quickly (and behind something).

Wow your guys' TFGs make our resident TFG seem like a stable, well-meaning person! Well, I'll rant about him anyway. Young guy, 17 (ok only a year younger than me). Claims to be Russian as he can speak it (don't know the truth but he was probably born here while his parents/GPs are from there as is the case oftentimes) and has some sort of Soviet Union fetish.
He's got a group of younger kids (I think there are four... ~16, ~15, ~15, ~11) that just about worship him. Actually on their own they are quite cool.
But on the actually why he is TFG:
1) Knows the rules completely... or thinks he does. Typical TFG behavior, I know all the rules and can't be wrong even when I am :p .
2) Plays IG but mainly plays something like Ellysian drop troops or something? Only friendly game I've played him he used them and of course since the whole army could deepstrike I was kinda hosed. OH and he also used two... planes... thunderhawks I think and a valkyrie set up as a flying transport. (IG players help me out here!) Of course I don't know the rules for all this so I have no idea how much he made up.
3) Very hypocritical. Ex: Our first tourny with the new 40k/FB club in our area he was dropping hints to one of his friends tactics wise and such but of course was claiming he wasn't. After the tourny he played that friendly game with me and one of his friends came up and said simple "watch out". Well TFG goes off on a 15 year old kid (the kid he was arguing with about helping) and starts yelling that of course it was ok for his friend to tell me tactics. I felt bad, I really did.
But wait he actually did something good for the club! He bought a ton of imperial ruins and put them together (poorly) for us! But then later claimed it was his terrain and threatened to take it back because people were using it when he wasn't there (kind of the club leader's fault cuz he said we could use the stuff in the storage room and bang the buildings were in there) so my friend threatens to take back the terrain he donated and that shuts TFG up about that subject.
He also has this scraggly chin beard that makes him look... unclean in some weird way.

Because we all know that people who play competitively eventually turn into TFG. It's called 'devolution' or 'Gary Coleman Syndrome'. They start out as a paragon of humanity - a casual gamer - but then one day that little thought creeps into their head - "Hey, I'd like to win a bit more." And once they've started down that dark path forever will it consume their destiny (quoting Yoda again, who as we all know was a casual gamer), soon their 'want' to win a bit more becomes a 'need'. And then that need to win a 'bit' more becomes a need to win 'all the time'. And then next think you know they're finding loop holes in the rules whilst snorting crushed Tau sprues off the back of the 12-year-old they kidnapped from their local GW! And it's only after that happens that they become a TFG... and the less said about them the better. So fight against competitive gaming! Fight against those who want to win. What scares me is that, when I see these posts, I don't know if it's a sarcastic taunt towards people who are anti-competetive gaming, a serious message with a sarcastic delivery, or a purposeful exagerration of how you really feel. LOL
Between not knowing you that well and not knowing where the first incarnation of the "DCGM" started, I'm left bewildered. LOL

Most certainly the former. I've compared tournament gamers to everything up and including Hitler - there's no truth to my words. The DCGM is a parody of those who immediately call anyone playing competitively a WAAC player (like JWDD is prone to do). And really, Rule #1 is 'Be Polite', right? What it isn't is 'Don't ever mention another member in a way that might be at all construed as negative even when it is just a tiny mention to illustrate a completely non-flammatory point'. Now make yourself known...

Really, our club here is fairly good natured. Sure we have our scuffles but nothing reallyover the top. But...
This is more of a TFK rather than a TFG. By TFK I mean That Fething Kid. This kid is so loud and has the most annoying voice I have ever heard. He talks too much and makes life hell for everyone, including the other starters he plays against. He's never bothered to read the rules, and has been playing for what must be 8 months by now and literally plays like it's actually toy soldiers, y'know, the "Oh Yeah???" kid? No rolling of the dice with him. This is the latest conversation I was forced to engage in with him.
TFK: My Iron Man (Dreadnought) has a missile. It sees your Land Raider thingy. So it's dead. *picks up the other kids Land Raider and moves it off the table.*
Other Kid: Um, aren't you suppose to roll or something?
TFK: No, it's a special hunter missle. It kills anything automatically.
Other Kid: Oh. That's pretty powerful. Why don't my guys have anything like that?
TFK: Becuase you didn't get an Iron Man. Only Iron Man's (yes Man's) get this hunter missiles.
Me: Excuse me, kid, but you do have to roll to hit with a hunter killer missle. AND it can only fire once per game.
TFK: *Scowls then Rolls. Misses* Where does it say THAT in the rules? *throws a hissy*
I understand that the new blood is important in maintaining a healthy gaming culture, but this guy really tries my patience.

Our TFG is also our oldest player and is quite fond of WAAC playsyle he abuses rules which isn't so bad unless you count in the fact he's also into abusing players that don't yet know all the rules. He dosent teach new players he stomps them and then makes what i would call a speech about his greatness except it only makes him look like an a$$. He hasn't been so much of a problem lately since the storeowner didn't like him driving new customers away and started keeping a "community stash" of codices and a rulebook making any rules question that he tries to bring up very easy to adress, also we warn all newcomers about him. Still he's a good player and when you know enough about the game to actually beat him the feeling you get whyle watching him rant is rather satisfiyng (that might be just me though).

People who think they know every rule perfectly...I know whats thats like.
I do know one guy, who mostly beats up on newer players, and then gets all mad when someone experienced completely smashes him. Myself included.
Wouldn't call him a TFG, but its annoying how he basically calls TFG on whoever beats him. Mostly me. I just don't like how he beats new guys, calls the list powerful, and then starts saying how I think I'm so great just because I won, when really I never said anything. You could call it the opposite of a TFG. It's also stupid that he says this, and then when he's winning he talks about how cool all his guys are (lol). But if I say what epic things people in my army do, apparently that makes me the TFG.

These stories are amusing, for the most part.
The best part of this thread is that the only sentiments expressed about the casual/tournament divide came from HBMC, in a tone he normally uses to respond to such statements.
I think you jumped the gun a bit, HBMC.

As long as they keep the cheese in the tournaments, then what's wrong with competitive gamers? You can be competitive and still be cool and have fun with it. Some people really enjoy competitive play, they find it fun, whcih is why they do it.

And really, Rule #1 is 'Be Polite', right? What it isn't is 'Don't ever mention another member in a way that might be at all construed as negative even when it is just a tiny mention to illustrate a completely non-flammatory point'. Now make yourself known...
HBMC is right, except for the fact that Tournament players ARE the worst thing to ever happen to the hobby.
And that "Rule #1" is selectively applied at best and just generally a not particularly funny joke.

And that "Rule #1" is selectively applied at best, though is easily the funniest joke ever.

I did it first to point out the absurdity of it. That's what the DCGM public announcements are.
