Which vanilla chapter is the most popular? Is it Ultramarines, like everyone thinks? Or do people actually use chapters other than "blue space marines" now?

I'm doing my own chapter, which is halved blue and yellow. That said, I really like the Raven Guard, the White Scars and the Iron Hands, which you should add to the list, as they are a first founding chapter, despite GW's best efforts to have us all forget about them.

My main Marine army is of my own devising, the (not so terribly original) Imperial Dragons.
They had an off-shoot Company (that was actually my very first 40K army) which I call the Lost Company. They used the Cursed Founding Legion of the Damned rules last edition, but I haven't decided yet what I'm doing with them now...
I also have a fledgling all-Scout army called the Betharin Hunters.

Anything using the Codex: Space Marines. Called Vanilla for their sheer lack of true flavor and massive amounts of repetitivity. Like eating Vanilla ice cream. It gets boring.

Thanks for the replies, all. I had no idea so many people created their own chapters! I thought for sure there would be more Ultramarines people. Personally I play Dark Angels, from the Dark Angels codex, but I really like how the Salamanders and Imperial Fists look. I painted my first tac squad Ultramarines because they were from Battle for Macragge, and those were the paints it came with. I later repainted them DA.

Yeah, 1000 points of ANGRY MARINES over here. Was gonna do a pre-heresy army, but then i read "The Life and Death of John Fuklaw", and fell in love with the angry marines.

Dude i have to dissagree with you on that point its some of the best bools on SM that not Ironsnakes or any CSM booK.
any way back to the point mine are brazen claws as theye have some fluff but not alot that i cant add stuff to it.

Iron Hands ( changed colors for weapons )
Crimson Swords ( DIY, 4th ed traits ) -> imperial purple, codex grey as main colors, skull white, blood red for details.
Sand Vipers ( DIY, all bike ) -> shades of brown as main color ( desert scheme ).
Golden Dragons ( DIY, 3rd ed ) -> catachan green, chaos black as main colors, scorched brown , metals for details.
