hey DakkaDakka...

here is a little commission build...
my first attempt at sculpting!!!
what a pain in my backside...
i really don't like working with greenstuff, but i had to tackle it at some point...
not having to start from scratch was a big help...
this guy is a combination of a Dark Angels body, the original metal Mephiston, and greenstuff pressmoulding and sculpting...

this is what the customer requested, a new version of the old model, sans mullet...
a little more action in the pose, a little better hairdo, a little scarier...
switching the weapon hands made all the difference, as now he looks like he is shooting the plasma pistol instead of just standing for a photo...

the full 360 view is in the gallery here:

i learned a lot about what NOT to do on this piece...
hopefully one day soon i will tackle a Space Wolf, a la Vincenti, but for now i'm just happy i can get on to painting this guy...

hope you like him...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers
jah

Well he did say he used molds. But that does look fantastic. Huge improvement from the original mini. Im betting your customer will be happy with that one

First sculpting? Even with molds, that's impressively good!

I *think* I ran across his thread somewhere... On B&C or Warseer?

Anyway, yes, he made a mold of the chest armor of the old Mephiston model, but...

This is still fantastic stuff!

thanks guys...

the customer is stoked, aside from the fact that i've slowly been workin' on this guy since October!!!
when i finish him next month, he will probably be made redundant when GW releases a new sculpt...

this has been a slow painful process, mostly consisting of me tryin' to work up the balls to actually sculpt (though this medium is more pushing and pulling than actual sculpting)...

greenstuff moulds where the easiest part of the project, and something i highly recommend...
little details like the skulls and blood drops would be a pain to do by hand, and have them all come out exactly the same...
the chest would have been a nightmare to sculpt...

i'm really lookin' forward to painting this guy...

cheers

That is really impressive man... if it were me I would have asked to do away with the cheesy high brimmed hood; but your work is fantastic.

I partially agree with you, the only bad thing i find about the high brimmed hood is that, well, it is a little to high. If it was half the hight it would look pretty good.

jah-joshua: Nice work man, would of loved to be given that thing.
