I have been thinking, this is something i have been brooding about.

I am saddened. Man no longer reaches toward his brothers and sisters with with an olive branch, but with point of bloodied sword inches away from his brother's neck. We no longer live in a world of prosperity but of greed, selfishness and anger, our decisions made not out of logic and common reasoning, but our decisions fuelled by anger and hate and frustration.

Technologically, phsyically, and emotionally, we as a species have advanced to a stage where war is a last resort, wher war is used in an act of desperation, yet, so many of our leaders in which we have intrusted our lives, fortune, security and hope are willing to shed the blood of his brother and sister, so willing to commit the most henious act against humainty, over petty claims of insurrection or land, over differing beliefs and views.

Yet, there is hope in this war-torn world, there is hope indeed. This hope lies withen every person on the earth, and this is the hope: that every man woman and child will be free. that every man woman and child born here can have life, liberty and property, that every man, woman and child will be able to express their views, to seek out a better life, to excell and prosper, to be able to sleep comftorbly and eat well, to be well-informed and ogical, to be good, loving, human beings.

And when we, as a species, begin to change for those ideals and views, when every man, woman and child will have these unalienable rights to express himself freely and to participate in his government, God will smile upon us, and the sun will not set on more glorious a human achievement, and we will all rise forth in one angelic chior and say, God bless us all!

Change on this level takes a huge amount of time. Humans are animals, albiet the most advanced and dominant animal on the planet, animals none the less. When you look at the conflicts, attrocities and genocides which have taken place in the last 50 years there is little difference to the ones commited hundreds, even thousands of years ago, the only change is the techniques employed (from swords to machine guns). For humans to stop behaving in this manner altogether it will require us to evolve. This will take a vast amount of time. However many of us recognise that war and violence are no longer ideal/acceptable ways to behave. This is a step in the right direction and also the first step towards changing things for good.

You need to get your history right if you think that the former ever dominated the latter.

When was this wonderful age when humans dwelt in such harmony? I've never heard of it.

When did we live in an age of prosperity? I've never heard of it.

When did our governments make decisions of logic and common reasoning? I've never heard of it.

What the hell are you talking about.

Humanity has been ripping and tearing at it's self since it occurred as a species, prior to that, it's ancestors were ripping and tearing at each other.

Individuals commit acts of compassion and heroism on a daily basis, horror is met out by humans to each other on those same days.

I don't know when this 'age of wonder' you seem to be harking back to existed, I've never heard of it.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

You realise that human beings have been stabbing each other with sharp things for as long as there have been human beings? We have moved beyond bloodied swords and now have guns, tanks and smart bombs.

Human beings as individuals can be capable of great compassion, and also great hatred and indifference. This has always been the case and I don't think this will change without some very harsh alterations to how we govern ourselves and live our lives.

Even in a world where there is plenty for all, there will still be human nature lurking to mess it all up. No gods required.

Who ever said we were the highest form of life?

There are bacteria that are for all practical intents and purposes, invincible. If they became self-aware, they could wipe us out in days. And self-awareness is overrated in any case - our lives would be simpler without it. Many creatures we consider 'lower' forms of life will continue to flourish long after we humans disappear, and they are untroubled by such questions as 'is there a god?' or 'why am I here?'.

Hope lies in ever person on Earth. Yet hope for others is dispair for myself. That hope for change is useless, the world will not change, so long as there are those of us who don't wish for such changes. There are those who happen to enjoy chaos. Wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. The majority of people live by the Capital Vices. It strangles hope, and the runs the river of destiny a crimson red.

As we follow this path like trains on a track, there will be one who smiles. But it won't be the one you hope will.

More importantly I saw two wiener dogs get into a wienie dogfight Broadway Musical style, evidently over who gets to sit in my lap. Lots of dancing, shifting, and occasionally trying to flip the other one wrestler style. I and She Who Must Be Obeyed swore we heard the "rumble scene music" from Westside Story playing.

Except for Isthatmycow, you've all renewed my faith in our pitiful species. Especially you, Frazz. I erupted into a fit of mad cackling that drove both of my cats from the room, fearing for their lives. We're smart because the Anunnaki wanted us to to their gold-mining for them, and we're vicious because they had the bad judgment to use Hominids as their starting material. So unless they decide to come back and finish the job, we're fethed. Have as much fun as you can and die screaming.

Violence by one person against another isn't responsible for that many deaths.

Truth is life is short and fairly brutal, especially so if you look back a hundred years ago or just look outside the Western world now. Work accidents kill far more than war has, and disease has killed countless more than that - malaria alone has killed more than war ever has.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

This is, unfortunately, not a recent development... for goodness sake, look at the middle ages... if anything we are advancing slowly... inch by inch... towards a possibly more peaceful and civilized world.
