Background: I'm a huge fan of fluff. My first army was Ultramarines, because they had the most fluff available to me when I started playing. However, I've painted so many of them, I started my interest started to wane. So I decided I needed something to keep me more involved. I got the idea for creating my own system, done 500 points per army at a time, with each army having my own designed fluff.

Map:

I've decided to start with the Tyranids, known as Hive Fleet Tizheruk. A splinter fleet that worked just outside of the wake of Hive Fleet Kraken, and wound up coming to the Malina System, hitting New Vinton, homeworld of the Falcon Guard (my SM chapter, using the geneseed of the Raven Guard).

Color Scheme Test Model:

Since they're on New Vinton, fighting the Falcon Guard in the area around the Falcon Guard's Fortress Monastery up in the mountains, I've based them on some slate from Lowe's that grey_death smashed up for me.

With any luck, I get some good temperatures this week, and am able to prime them. I'm also looking to get some gaunts cleaned up and modeled in the near future.

Nice nids. You have a campaign in mind for your system?

Thanks guys.

Nightwatch - Steal away. I just wanted to not paint blue for a while, and green happens to be my favorite color.

Ghost_Leader_7 - I do have a campaign in mind, and I've got the basics in my head. That's one of my other projects to work on while not working on these guys. The goal is to make it a branching campaign. We'll see. My goals rarely come out the same way in the end.

Tomorrow night, I'll be trimming up some gaunts, and hopefully putting them together. Might still be too cold to prime the guys I've got built.

I think the tones of the test model work, but need some adjustment. The lime and pink are saying watermelon to me. Maybe consider bringing the pink to brown a more, and mixing in a different color to the highlight or base color of the green, again, a brown, purple or blue maybe. It would still be green but slightly off-tone and a bit less saturated.

Great start overall though, don't get me wrong!

MajorTom - I see what you're saying, but bringing the pink down to a brown loses me the contrast I'm looking for. That said, I'm not against changing the pink.

A small update to this. As I've just realized I'm out of primer and in the middle of bill paying, no updates on the actual models.

However, I do have some custom logos I've created for this project.

(In order from left to right)
Falcon Guard (Space Marines) - Took me the longest to design, going through 3-4 iterations before I settled on this design of a falcon getting ready to dive.

Amarok 5th (Imperial Guard) - The quickest to design. I wanted to use a 7 pointed star, and Amarok is a giant wolf in Inuit Mythology (I used a fair amount of Inuit mythology in my fluff designs).

Mu'Arae Sept (Tau) - Was just a small sketch I came up with while doing laundry.

Gliese Craftworld (Eldar) - This was the hardest to come up with a concept for, but once I did, the design game easily.

Freelootas Clan (Orks) - Took just about as long as the Falcon Guard, but went through 2 iterations (and one Clan name change) before I got what I wanted, which is essentially a rip off of the traditional Jolly Roger flag. Makes sense when you consider these guys spend their entire time raiding the one aggro world in the system and the hive world of Amarok as well.

I like the color scheme, but I have to admit the pastel colors make me think he looks like sherbert.

Think about an army full of sherbet coming after you. That'd be horrifying.

Interesting ideas, and a well painted mini (if a little pale for my tastes). Look forward to seeing how this develops.

Small non-update: My wife just gave birth to our second daughter this weekend, so when our daughter (and, consequently, the camera) come back from the hospital, expect some update pics.

FLUFF FOR THE FLUFF GODS!

It is always good to see fluff, models and paint coming together.

Can't wait to see more.

From what I've seen here and elsewhere, this is going to be a very cool project!

Bravo for attempting something of this scale! It would scare the pants off me to even contemplate such an undertaking!

More of those nice looking tyranids please!

Cheers,

Dante

I apologize with the lack of updates here. My wife and I brought the newest addition to our family home, and the only hobby time I get is when the little one is asleep on my chest. (So, I've been playing lots of PS3).

However, I do have two new pictures. I finished the warriors and some gaunts. The warriors were rather simple because they've got two contact points to fit onto the slate of my base. The gaunts, not so much. One tiny <expletive> point. I think I spent 15 minutes trying to get one of them down. However, in the end, the result was worth is, and rather strong.

So, I bring you 2 pictures. 8 gaunts and 3 warriors, and my first 500 points worth of nids, pre-primed (507 points, actually).

I primed a spare Eldar Guardian to test my new primer (big fan of the Krylon primer now), and will get to priming these guys when I've got some free time. Once they're painted up, I'll move onto 500 points of some other army. I've got to keep myself interested as my slow painting times with my Ultras has showed me.

In addition, I've got some fluff written for my nids, but my two editors (grey_death and my wife) have yet to get back to me. Punks. Although, I think my wife has an excuse. 10 lb babies don't birth themselves...

Nice to see the first set of models together finally! Now get them primed and start washes! I suggest doing a double wash to get a bit more contrast on the models though and possibly wash the green down with the sepia as well, though only hit that once before highlighting.

I'll see if I can't find some time to do some edit work on the fluff piece x.x..

Double wash, got it. Might need some more Sepia. Chances are, I'll be asking you about this again once I start painting.

And you have a valid excuse too (not as valid as Emily's), going to school and all.
