I recently bought another space marine battleforce, and noticed something a little weird with their backpacks. One of the backpacks on every sprue has a hole drilled clean through it, in the place where the skull usually is. Is this normal in the new sprues, or did I get a wonky battle force?

That sounds really wonky. There shouldn't be a hole in it. Does it look like a molding error or does it look like someone took a hand tool to it?

I remember an old post here on Dakka where someone had the same issue.
The common suggestion was (if I recall correctly) to have the force replaced.
I will post a link if I find it.
Bye!
Found!
here it is! http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/257744.page#992560

I'm seeing the same issue. At the moment i'm working on Assault Marines and both boxes the backpacks are like that. I'm not using them so it doesn't matter.

It means not enough plastic was injected into the mould when it was fabricated. Probably a batch issue.
On the inside of mine (the area normally hidden by the model as this is the side that fits against the back) there is the hole for the mounting stud and a smaller hole above it that appears to be for the injector nipple (judging by the ring).
Sounds like this hole is your through and through.

Well, if it's a production problem then GW should be willing to replace the sprue for you. Glad to know it's not a shady reseller at work.

I have had this same problem, but it is so easy to fix with some green stuff that I haven't bothered to call up GW's customer service.
I mean, you just stuff a little green stuff into the area and flatten it out with the knife. Since you're just making it flush, all you have to do is press the flat end of your knife against the hole and viola.

Thanks a bunch guys. I don't have GS, and the GW is right across the street from my work. So I'll just have the kit replaced.

I didn't think this was a thing. I've gotten backpacks like this in every Space Marine box I've gotten since I started playing last year.
I usually glue some bits on to cover the hole. It's a good place to put a purity seal.

Same here. I had a batch of bad backpacks a while back. Think I just threw them in the bitz box and went on with it though. Weren't too many of them - one partial hole and one complete hole.

I emailed customer service when the same thing happened to me.
They sent me 5 extra back packs. It was nice of them.

Actually it is a batch issue. That hole is meant for to hold a small piece that allows them to change the back art. Basically they can just insert the skull or a flush mount or whatever else and then have a mold made. Someone just forgot to put the piece in.

One partial hole and one complete hole in every box I've ever bought since I started. I didn't even realize it was messed up (okay I had some idea, but didn't think too much of it).
Not a big deal. I usually glued a bit over it or just greenstuffed it. Really easy to fix.
