Hello Dakkas,
I´m from Germany and I started with 40k about two month ago.
At first I only collected unpainted or painted models to scrubb but now i am building a space marine chapter.
thats where the problems start...
for the colour sheme i looked directly to the dark angels chapter,
which as i now found out is due to there special chapter structure not an easy pick.
(means the deathwing etc. wich is at the moment a bit expensive to field for me...)
so now i try to create my own spin off chapter of the DAs. Thats where i need your help.
The fluff and all things considered to add flesh to bones is something that is not coming easy to me,
due to a massive lack of backround in the 40k universe...
i love the dark angels green and also black an white, but what i really need to form a new chapter
is a sybmol that´s set apart but also brings a conection to the headchapter...
well, so my dakka help me i will show pics in the fullnes of time to tribute your needed assistence^^
p.s. a moto is also in my head : "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes"( who watches the watchmen?)

Logo wise, instead of the sword you could go for an axe or hammer between the wings. Originally the Dark Angels were black with a red racing stripe down the centre of their helmets.
Other than that, I don't know if I can be of any more assistance.

well, i wolud go for the hammer i think then, the yxe is a bit to orky for me^^
also a new question arises: how can i convert the original DA decals so that the sign suits my needs? or is there a technological way to get new decals by do it yourself?

Lots of people prefer to do insignia without the use of decals. Practice makes perfect.

You can get a computer program that will make decals on a home printer. No look at the Fantasy side at the Britonnian detal sheets. They have all sort of great markings and trust me you can get them cheap on Ebay and here on dakka.

@ MeanGreenStompa
well is there fluff specially interesting? haven´t read about them so far, but as for their style:
as a father of three youngster sons, i imagine myself to paint an army with the complete lower half in pure white...
it is so difficukt to stay clean and pure with such a color... as a father you either are constantly yelling at the kids to stay on clean ground or you just don´t buy white stuff for them^^
and as my army should definitly kick som a.. the would have instantly all those droplets of green or blue or waht ever xenosblood on there not clean anymore powerarmors...
but i will read about their fluff in your first given link.
by the way: is the army yours shown in the other links? then i have just to salute you for your marksmanship^^ with a brush^^

Not my army, but fairly famous for being amazingly well painted and also some very nice conversions. I especially like his instruction on basically undercoating the different parts of the marine and then constructing top to bottom.
Yep, their fluff is very cool, they are the special ops of the Astartes, they are 'state of the art' marines, not made from the other chapters but a combination of geneseed kept on Terra.
They have small forces spread throughout the galaxy carrying out missions and collating information back at their base.
They are not bound by rigid dogma and antiquated ritual but are actually progressing the imperium.
Their 'fluff' is actually very very old, they appeared back in a white dwarf when I was a lad in 1988. So you'd have plenty of respect from the old school gamers.

@MeanGreenStompa :
well i´ve read their backround now at lexicanum and together with your last post i have to admit that the mentors are truly unique. to field such an army is something honorable. the main reason i choose to filed and build a dark angels army is also teir fluff but mainly their appearences. their colorscheme is totaly up my style, green bieng my favorite color, well so are the mentors, but i like the dark aspect more of the angels...only problem i now will have is that my budget wont allow a ravenwing, maby i´m able to build and amount a deathwing...
@ a94marbo :
is this useful pic downloadable? i would try so but could only get a tiny piece of the whole. that would make a big impression at my working station and be a center piece for futur motivation and inspiration...

For fluff advice you should post in the 40K Background or 40K Discussion forums.
You don't need a special program to print decals.
You can design the decals in Photoshop, GIMP, Word and so on.
Decal printing paper is easy to find on Internet. Just make sure to buy the right type. There are different types for laser and for inkjet printers.
The paper with transparent backing is best. The white backing paper gives you a white background to the decal so you have to cut very carefully.

@ killkrazy:
i will look for blank decal paper. a small ivest wich i will benefit in time^^
and to create your own insignias via pc i would strongly advice not pxel relatet progs but vector related prgs. surly one day one wants to make a base and has to resize the insignia or paint a vehicle and if an insignia is createt on pixelbasis then you get instant lego optics but not with vector based products...
