An assault mech out of the Phoenix Hawk? What are they thinking.

As Ghaz said the IIC models are their own new beasts, where as a Phoenix Hawk C would be any variant of a Phoenix Hawk upgraded with Clan equivalent technology. Or a specific Clan version.

Most IICs tend to be upgraded versions of the originals, though, oftentimes a tad lighter or heavier, but with the same role.

And then there's the 2nd line mechs that are IICs in everything but in name, like the Hellhound that's totally not a Wolverine IIC.

Well the Clans have a reason why the Conjurer wasn't named the Wolverine IIC.

IIC 'mechs are not conversions, but new 'Mech models designed from a namesake parent design to make use of Clan technology. An Inner Sphere equivalent would be the Marauder and the Marauder II.

IIC models normally follow the design doctrine of the original and have similar purpose, more or less. So I don't see a fast medium being a namesake for an assault mech.

And this one is the exception that proves that it's not a rule that they must follow the design doctrine and have a similar purpose to the original. IIC's don't even need to be a 'Mech, as there are IIC Aerospace Fighters (the Chippewa IIC) and Combat Vehicles (the Axel IIC).

More than likely, they needed a 'Mech design for the original Phoenix Hawk IIC artwork that had already been commissioned. We know for certain that they didn't have a problem with the name 'Matador'.

Heads up - the new Battletech Beginner box is out now with the exclusive (currently at least) new Vindicator sculpt. I got mine delivered from B&N in the US.

A big cool box set for Alpha strike is also coming soon, which is their box of mechs, cardboard terrain, and rules to play the more traditional mini war game (no hex, measuring in inches, etc.).

I'm stoked for the next kickstarter man, just got into Pokemon I mean Battletech miniatures from Catalyst, and it's been fun.

(Edit - lol I hadn't ever noticed the little warning text for updating a 3+ month old thread here. Sorry if I "lose the respect of forum members" for updating an old thread lol. What am I, back in the pre-facebook age?!)

Has there been word about the next Battletech Kickstarter?

I think CGL is doing one other campaign first I read on the official forums? But still slated for Fall as far as we know. And one of the employees (again from a thread on the forum) mentioned it would be a faster turnaround (experience, alot of work already done, no covid doom).

Projected to launch sometime between late October (optimistic) and the end of November (more realistic).

50+ new models, approximately 75% battlemechs and 25% vehicles (I think IS battle armour is also confirmed). Lots of confirmed specifics about the exact new mechs/vehicles that will be produced (from convention displays, art from the designers' patreons, etc.) but you'd have to trawl reddit for lists and/or pics since I don't have a link handy.

Or just visit the BattleTech thread in Dakka's 'Other Sci-Fi Miniatures Games' forum...

Catalyst launched a KS for a Shadowrun card game this week so I would say early November at earliest.

Half temped to buy one just for the memes. That is a crap ton of crap mechs for a reasonable enough price.

Edit.

I now have 12 Urbies on the way...

Maybe this means there will be enough time to let things like the Alpha Strike 'Mechs and maybe a few store-exclusive Lances find their way into the KS options.

the store exclusive likely no, as those are going to be exclusive for a set time via contract (maybe the CGL store exclusives though) the Alpha strike mechs.... maaaaybe. I bet we'll be able to ask for an AS box as part of the KS. it may be that the AS box is part of the decision though a concern they'd sell less if it was avaiable at the same time the KS was operating

That was my point of "enough time", as this is several months into the future, meaning a few of them might have passed their period of exclusivity.

As for the Alpha Strike 'Mechs, the Beginner's Box/Game of Armoured Combat minis were offered as part of the KS sans actual boxes, so I'm hoping the AS ones get the same treatment.

True but think of it as time to build up a war ches for a it. Not having the product take as long to ship* this time will be nice too.

Personally, while I hate that it affects other people, I'm kind of glad since we just recently found out we have to move AGAIN by end of year and this now puts the KS after that move.

One way or another, it'll be delayed because of something.

It's a Kickstarter.
