https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwAoukhJodA That was the video i mentioning, i still think it is speculation... but it gives some pause and makes you think about army wide ignore cover etc.
The base comment was referring from the reveal one, some of the characters looked like they had a bigger base?
Thanks. Actually one of the better videos I've seen so far. I think his concerns are valid, but I got quite a few counterpoints to his view:
- he assumes no updates to armies whatsoever. While he is probably right that there will not be sweeping index-style updates, I think a dataslate-style update is a given and I expect army rules which are oppressive to be changed.
- Points will absolutely be updated, and judging from history,
GW is probably going to overreact points-wise to on every unit they
assume will benefit too much from the new rules.
- Every wall, every pipe, every tree line and every generator will now be obscuring. Both layouts
GW have one NML objective obscured to the opponent's deployment zone, and on both maps any unit threatening all parts of the center objective can also be shot from the center objective. His plasma hammerhand fantasy can be ended by a unit of tankbustas in a trukk hiding right behind the center ruin. Even if it is hugging the battlefield edge, the tankbustas will be able to reach it without exiting their transport.
- The biggest flaw: He completely ignores that units can hide in terrain and that his gunline cannot touch those units no matter what they do unless the move within 15". If you infiltrate kommadoz on those objectives, they can tear through tau chaff all game without being worried about getting shot. In one of the maps a unit of breakaboyz could probably move into the opponent's deployment zone without every leaving hiding.
In summary, I honestly don't see gunline being a viable option in 11th. His concerns about game wide extra
AP is probably very valid, but not for tau. They already ignore cover today.
