One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm





I was playing with a buddy of mine who told me that if i shot at his unit and then assaulted, I would lose my +1 attack. Does that sound right? I couldn't find that in the rule book.

Or remembering the old True Grit rule, which nothing except Grey Knights have now. Were you using Grey Knights?

Yeah, your buddy is full of poop. Regular Infantry can shoot with Assault weapons in the Shooting phase and attack at full effect (bonus for charging and everything) in the Assault phase. Rapid Fire and Heavy Weapons will prevent a unit from charging, unless it has something like Relentless.

The only thing is if you shoot something, you must assault it. Nothing else changes, enjoy your +1 attack for charging.

I thought Relentless allows you to move and shoot, but does not remove the restriction of not being able to assault after firing heavy weapons and rapid fire.

It does remove the restriction, as it says "and are also allowed to assault in the same turn they fire them."

And if you wipe out unit in shooting phase, you cannot charge at anything else during assault phase, or you can pick up another target for assault (as original target has been destroyed)?

If you fired a rapid fire weapon, or a heavy weapon you could not assault.
However if you fired an asasult weapon, or a pistol weapon, you could still assualt.

Your buddy is probably remembering earlier editions where firing in the shooting phase did take away your +1 attack for charging, but that rule has gone the way of the dodo.

On the part of destroying a transport...

What if it's not a dedicated transport?

My understanding was that a dedicated transport was part of the unit, and thus you could blow it up, and then take on whatever was inside. But a transport that was bought separately wasn't part of the unit and thus you couldn't.

Or am I totally off base?

Your understanding is incorrect. Read p67, and see what it tells you is different between dedicated and nondedicated

In short: dedicated transsport, in fact NO vehicle, is ever ever ever part of the transported unit. Ever. They may not take up any extra *slots*, and be treated as the same unit slot type (e.g. troops, heavy), but they are not the same UNIT.

Right, my bad. Proctoring an SAT right now, so I don't have my rulebook to double. The point though is that if you've played a couple games against SMs, CSMs, or Tau, you've probably seen something that's relentless.

Though I will be fair, none of them benefit from it as none of them have Heavy/Rapid Fire Weapons
