I think some of you know of this website and I just think it's a load of, quite frankly, crap.
I'm not even American and it disgusted me.
Why must we pick on these people. Who gives a damn if they have poor fashion sense, they're still people!
Do I have a point, or am I just shouting at a brick wall?

Brick Wall. But seriously, with all the Wal-marts out there, you have to have some fun against them.

So we're not supposed to make fun of strange people anymore? What would we do with our time?

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Urrrrggghhh... the pictures are funny, but the cruel comments are totally completely unneccesary. As is labelling them 'creatures' and 'things'.
That's what I'm getting at.

The site is hysterical. I have always enjoyed it. Trust me, once you visit a Wal-Mart in Oklahoma, POWM means so much more to you.

I look at the people of Wal Mart site as something their competition loves.
By that I mean pointing at a place and making it seem as though it's the only place you'd see off beat people or that you'd have to be a freak to go there.
You'd easily get more of the same type of person featured in websites about local dance clubs and the like if that was the type you'd be looking to showcase.

The weird part is that it doesn't actually matter *where* the Wal-Mart is located. If you visited a Wal-Mart on the French Riveria 30 minutes before closing time, you'd see the Deliverance cast inside.

I really believe in that 30 minutes before close thing, BTW. I think it's the peak time for people watching in Wal-Marts.

I think that only Americans can really understand what Wal-Mart is. I will agree that (at first) the use of "creatures" is a bit extreme, but until you've actually encountered these people on a regular basis then you can't really understand.

People view Wal-Mart as a "home away from home". This is disturbing because they feel that they can dress, and act, as they do at home. Social standards are kind of non-existent at Wal-Mart. I view the local WM as a kind of Bartertown (from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome). When doing our weekly run I expect to see pigs, scantily dressed women (who probably shouldn't be), and 80s throw-back haircuts. I'm not being harsh this is my reality. You have to understand that Wal-Mart does bring out all types of people. Am I saying that these people shouldn't be in public? No, of course not, but you can't get pissy if somebody gets a picture of you dragging your child by a leash or the 250lb women wearing an outfit that would be too small on somebody half her size. If a dude wants to dress in drag then whatever. Just make sure to shave your beard off and/or wear a wig. If you're going to be different then at least try.

Wal-Mart is a phenomenon that those outside the US just DON'T GET. It isn't their fault, in fact, they are probably better people for it.

But Wal-Mart is a terrifying place. I have 2 that I go to on occasion. One is Mexican Gang Wal-Mart. It is FILLED with (most likely) illegal immigrants who will follow you around looking for a place to try to take a purse, wallet, anything the can steal. But not from the store around them, the other people in it! The other is a "standard" Wal-Mart, with the general crazies, rednecks, hillbillies, and people who shouldn't have ever continued their genetic legacy, let alone a dozen times.

It really sucks to go there, but money savings for groceries is too good to not go there. I hate myself for it.

Dude I am so sorry. You're very brave to admit that. Does your family know? There are support groups out there. They say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

(Did I mention I worked at SAMs? #1 cashier baby!!!)
EDIT. I should note working FOR Walmart is completely different than going TO Walmart. That job didn't suck nearly as bad as other jobs I've had.

I remember when I was 18, working at Target, we used to talk about how cool it would be to work at Walmart instead.....Draw your own conclusions there man! I still have bad memories about working there, Ms. Pat.....this is directed at you (because I know you obviously troll these forums to torment me from over 10 years ago!).

Anyways I know what the original poster means. I refrain from such acts. I can be viewed as a hypocrite, I will peruse pictures such as that for a laugh now and again. I guess I fall under the "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" group.

Now for the contradiction to the above statement.

I used to work wit this lady who was a real she would pull the nastiest things on people at work. Give them the worst jobs, make fun of people behind there back and belittle them often. She once made me pretty mad by making a co-worker cry, the girl was very pretty it was obvious jealousy. I pointed out her bad 80's mullet later that day when she was fixing her hair (she knew I didn't like her). I said I thought it was impossible to mess a mullet up. Talk about an explosion...she was the managers friend, and the manager had a talk with me. She did not do anything about her attitude towards other employees...I quit 2 weeks later. Totally worth the reaction I got from her, if she was on the walmart site, I think it would be karma!

Mmmm cool (literally). Household chem fell under "health and beauty" when I worked at Target. Stocking those aisles would burn my eyes for some reason, always. Liked it better than books though.

I worked in the seafood dept. of a grocery store when I was in college. Came home stanky every day. We kept the department really clean, too. There really wasn't that much smell at the store, but for whatever reason I always came home smelling like I'd spent the day rolling around in cod...

We have Wal-Mart. It's just called Asda. Same company, different name.

As for feeling bad about making fun of them, well, all I can say is schadenfreude!
