Well the other issue is that you get these folks that wear all kindsa weird crap in public and somehow expect not to get mocked.

Perfect example is a woman at my college, who wears a cape. Who the hell wears a cape?

Does she live with a Police Comissioner called Jim, and sometimes go out and fight crime ?

Back when I was in college (talking Jurassic period here), I remember reading an article about a student at another college who dressed up as Batman and patrolled campus. IIRC, he recounted (he was interviewed in the article) an incident in which two guys were beating up another guy. "Batman" jumped out, flashed his stun gun, and they took off running.

I got the impression that he thought he had struck fear in those superstitous and cowardly ruffians. And he probably did. Although it's because they were likely thinking "Aaaagh! It's some escaped mental patient dressed up like Batman and he has a stun gun!!!"

That anecdote reminds me of the time I got chased around campus by the Pirate Society because I was dressed as a ninja.

Good times.

Also, not -entirely- true Frazz. Depending on where in Canada you are, If a person wears a highly offensive shirt and someone complains to a police officer that's present, they -can- order the person to cover their shirt/change/flip it over. Obviously the police won't respond if you phone and tell them how butthurt you are by someone's clothing, but in some provinces if an officer is present, he can intervene upon request. Some Municipalities also have Bylaws that ban these kinds of clothing, and you can get a pretty hefty fine if you keep at it.

Hell, a friend of mine was given a two-day suspension from work for saying "God is a lie" in the presence of a religious coworker who then reported her to the supervisor. So it isn't "Free Speech" in the same way the States knows it.

I'm a cliche in that I'm a geek with no fashion sense. That being said a large portion of the people who go to Wal-Mart have decided that any kind of social norm is irrelevant to them. Keep in mind that the ones that look like they sleep in a barn in the pictures also carry that smell. When you decide to ignore society you have to accept that you will be mocked. It happens to me due to my hobbies but I don't get offended let alone get offended on somebody elses behalf.

Oh, no doubt. Although is the cape/cloak in question cloth or what? Somehow I feel like a fur cape might actually have a tiny smidge of style, if still weird. Of course, then you'll get the fur-is-murder types assaulting you, especially on a college campus.

Campuses are just full of weirdos, to be honest.

It's cloth. It looks like your typical 'Dracula' cape from the old Hammer Horror flicks.

I'm inclined to think she's just fething weird as all hell though, because she apparently dresses like a pirate sometimes too.

Who said we shouldn’t make fun of the weirdos that frequent gaming stores?

I love geeks, they’re my people, but a whole lot of them are weird. Real weird. The idea that we should just ignore the fact that some people are very strange seems impossible to me, and likely counter-productive.

There is of course a difference between having a laugh and being a jerk, and a few of the comments on that website tended towards the latter.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I'm finding the whole "people of Wal-Mart" thing to be sort of lame.

It's usually just a picture of, like, a guy with an ugly shirt, or a fat woman whose clothes are too small. That's not particularly funny. The comments then make it seem as though a guy walking around with an ugly shirt is some sort of CrAzY thing, and that everyone should gather around and gawk at a guy and his ugly shirt.

Maybe my fashion sense just isn't good enough.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

About to eat your Avatar...

My favorite part is that more than half the photos are badly framed, blurry, and of something completely not all that funny, really.

The captions are not all that funny, and many of them are simply inflammatory.

"Hey, look at that fat chick, GUFFAW!".

"Hey, look at that fat guy, HURRDURR!"

"Hey, look at that old eccentric person, HEEEHEEE!"

There are a few classic photos, but like any site of that sort, it really lacks any lasting humor. Failblog stands far above POWM, and has a much catchier name.

Watch people's suffering/general lack of sense, at Failblog, it's funnier.
