Just to clarify, this isn't a "make a new army like this" thread... I'm basically talking about "oh it would be cool if this existed in 40k" or "imagine if *blank* fought a Space Marine!"

I'll start:

Predators...

Headcrabs...

Predators because I love their philosophy, and watching one stalk some Marines through a jungle would be interesting Though I imagine if they have any form of thermal vision it's dead...

Headcrabs because the idea of a Space Marine zombie is awesome...

Reavers from "Firefly"...wait nevermind we already have that in Chaos.

Borg...wait never mind we already have that in the Adept of Mars.

um...

Predators is a good choice. We would then need to see a story about Sly fighting Predators on a jungle planet.

Got an idea...Mi-Go or Elder Things.

Xenomorphs,I would love to see them get slaughtered by the Terminators and their jaw and tail could do nothing to the armor well maybe the acid, but the Terminator armor was designed to stand that and o wait we've already got the Genestealers.

Heh, I just don't see the predator thing working well.

In the movies and comics it stalks humans with its superior senses, strength, technology, and cunning.

I don't see them doing to well trying to stalk a space marine, what with the space marines having superior senses, strength, technology, and cunning to the predator. It would be a massecre.

I would say Xenomorphs...but that is what the tyranids are right?

Hmm.

Every non-anime style race I think of ends the same way. Space marines have just out grim-darked everything else out there.

Yeah another vote for Predators here. They are just too cool to ignore, I love their battle style, and philosophy.

I am pretty sure a predator could take a marine. They seem close in a normal 1v1 fight and the idea of predators is to draw the marines into a trap. They have a cunning that isn't there in marines.

Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Predators are pretty cool. You just have to envision them with the technology upgrades of the 41st millenium and they'll compete. Make them "super kroot" and work them right into the Tau.

I'd love to see a true robotic/artificial intelligence army. The Necrons just don't feel right and there's the whole Egyptianesque tint to them. It'd be great if they had infiltrators where you took over a random soldier in an enemy unit and he became a rampaging terminator (i.e., Arnold Schwarzenegger) in disguise.

Boba Fett would be cool.

Its always forgotten that marines are trained in every aspect of war, from guerrilla warfare to special ops to traditional. There is plenty of fluff to support them being sneaky b*, using traps, ambushes, and camouflage when necessary.

Physically...even if we assume their strength is even, marines have speed, redundancy, and the ability to insta-clog fatal wounds.

Ok, off topic I know. I'm just saying, 40k goes WAY overkill on the fluff. It is difficult for any of the more realistic sci-fi universes to compete.

Other than obvious aesthetics, the Tyranids are nothing like the Xenomorphs. Look them up.

Predators and Kroot have nothing in common; so how you got that logic, I don't know.

My vote goes to the Yautja (Predators), monsters from Pitch Black, Starship Troopers Bugs, and Xenomorphs.

NORLY? RLY?
Xenomorphs are boring. The Hive Mind aspect of Tyranids is far better than a killer ant colony designed with a phallic perspective courtesy of Giger.

You may have your opinion, but just because you don't share the same view, doesn't give you the right or reason to shoot down other people's ideas. If some people want to see the Xenomorphs in the 40k universe despite you thinking they're "boring", you have no right to tell them otherwise.

By the way, I hate to tell you, but without Giger and his design of the Xenomorphs, there would be no Tyranids (at least none that are close to those we have today). Giger made everything that the Xenomorphs are, and by default, everything (aesthetically) the Tyranids are.

P.S. I find it hillarious how worked up you're getting when someone calls you out on something that could be easily settled in a civil manner.

Kroot are hunters of a sort, so are Predators.

I was just trying to be funny and not shoot someone's idea down so you know. But was also trying to point out how Kroot can handle Marines, more or less, so why couldn't a Predator?

Sarcasm is apparently lost on you.

I'm very much aware of the influence that the Xenomorphs had on Tyranids, thanks. I'm also aware of the influence that Robert Heinlein's description of the 'Bugs' had on that same design(when was the last time you saw Xenomorphs carrying guns?)

I'm just saying there's no reason to bring another 'hive' based alien race into the mix, considering the similarities between Tyranids, the Bugs from SST, and the Xenomorphs.
