I'm working towards getting a more mobile/lite friendly version of dakka up and running within the next few months. If you have a phone and want it supported then you must do the following...

Much appreciated - For everyone who posts screenshots here, I promise I'll put in that extra bit of effort to make it work better on your phone. I cant promise it will work perfectly, but I'll have stuff to work towards.

If you have a Nokia N900, dont worry - that is what I have to I can guarantee it will work well on that phone. I'll be working to an 800 pixel width screen as maximum width so netbooks and tablets should be nicely supported too.

Hmm. Tried on Palm Pre today.

Got two errors:

1) Format not supported

2) HTTP Status 404 saying resource is not available.

have you thought of making an ipod app that links to dakka? I said this to a couple of friends and they all agree its a great idea!

Just a reminder, photos or screenshots of your phones rendering dakka's pages will also go a long way towards improving dakka on mobiles. Thanks for all the input so far.

As for a dedicated iphone app - apple treat developers so poorly that I will never, ever develop for them just to have my work cast aside on a whim or complaint. There will never be a dakka iphone app.

Also, I manually typed this in by looking at the phone, so hopefully there are no typos! Unfortunately, my wife left our camera with a relative, so I won't be able to take any external pics of the phone screen for another 6 weeks or so...

Just FYI, it is looking like at least 2-3 months from now before phone stuff is started as there are a lot of gallery tweaks I'm working on first. Current plan is roughly gallery, phone/lite skin, fix search engine.

Went ahead and pulled up the lite site on the PsP. The main site and the Lite site display fine..though it takes forever to load up, about 2 to 3 mins. The PsP has a limit of 1MB for a webpage and that's pushing it...probably safer to say 900KB. Anyway, here's the screenshot:

Thanks so far everyone, only a matter of time until I begin actual development of the phone version. Just got some boring optimisation stuff to do first as people seem to enjoy dakka a bit too much and are increasingly visiting us. The total number of additional visitors each month is now more than the entire total of users back when we took over.
