Aaron, your entry was awesome! I honestly thought you had it until it came down to Craig's dice roll.

As any gamer should know: If you roll low when you want high, conversely, you'll also roll high when you want low.
It's almost as if you have to use reverse psychology on your own dice rolls. I know I do.

I agree that this contest was a fun one and I'm surprised it didn't get more entries.

Good luck to you on the next contest! If the prize is the copy of Runewars that Raef was taunting me with then I know I will have to give it a go too.

Can't wait for my books to get here! I know Ascension brings Dark Heresy characters up to Rogue Trader level, but I wonder if they'll also be compatible with the new Deathwatch book coming out in August.

Sorry, Aaron. But as Jeff says, I should have known better. God alone knows I don't roll 1s nearly as often for things like Leadership checks!

And I don't know for sure, Jeff, but I'd have to guess that the characters for the first two (especially DH characters up-jumped with Ascension) will be compatible with characters from Deathwatch. It's pretty much their stated goal, I think.

Both of you, however, had great entries. So thanks for taking part!

Another good episode. I look forward to your review of Future War Commander -- I really enjoy Warmaster and I wanted to like Blitzkrieg Commander but it just doesn't seem to work for me.

The review of Tomb was very informative though I still can't decide if I will like it or not -- I guess I will have to wait for someone else to buy it first.

Craig's bookself on Goodread was interesting as well, I picked up a few ideas for titles to read in the near future.

Still waiting on that preview copy of Dark Heresy: Ascension you promised me Russ.

I know what you're thinking: "I never said that!" or perhaps "He's just making that up", but I have a hand-written and signed note saying that you'd do it.

BTW, the way you imitate my hand-writing is amazing Russ. Where'd you learn to do that?

To those reviewers who 'complained' the show is too long, I find myself wanting more, even after a 4+ hour marathon. Looking forward to the 1st 5hr episode.

Awesome sauce as always chaps, but I'm starting to get Welsh withdrawals again. Having met the man himself at a recent tournament, I demand more Owen.

No hobby stores in Wisconsin? Give the state that brought you D&D from a little town called Lake Geneva some respect. I am very envious of the number of hobby stores closer to the east coast, but we also don't have as many LARP groups.

The long episodes are fine.

Oddly, I set up the odd episode to play, turn my speakers up, and then do house work (ironing, dusting, etc.). It's a good way to make that task somewhat more interesting.

The weeks prior to and following the show are part of the semi-annual program/living nightmare that I run, and the day prior had been the closest I had come to a meltdown. I was pretty much running on empty when, to my surpise, my iTunes started downloading episode 51. I fired it up on the drive to work and nearly went off the road during the "Craig's Nightmare" piece laughing so hard. I was honored that one of my entries was played (the second one was garbage, and both were done at the last minute after work using software I barely understood).

In this economy, everyone else downsizes but you guys manage to keep getting larger and better. Keep 'em coming and keep 'em long and delete the comments from those who can't figure out what that button with the two lines next to the triangle that makes the noice come out of their players means. And thank you for help keeping me sane.

Yet again, another good 'cast guys!

Thanks for making the effort. As I just got hold of the Future Wars Commander rules myself a couple of weeks ago, I look forward to hearing your comments with pleasure.

Well, thanks, guys. And our pleasure, Spooky!

I, too, am looking forward to getting my copy of FWC. I’ll definitely let you all know how it goes, and I THINK I might be able to find an angle that gets the game a full review if we like it.

As for everyone’s favorite Welshman, Owen’s segments are always submitted on his own schedule, and with his involvement in This Week in Wargaming (definitely go check out his This Week in Military History episode in particular, VINTAGE Owen!), he might be feeling a time crunch.

But you know what you SHOULD do, send him email! Let him know you appreciate him and what he does and that you miss him, and maybe he’ll deign to throw us all a bone!

Thanks again, folks, and keep up the comments here. At least Russ and I check it out regularly. I can’t respond as often as I’d like (today half of southern New Hampshire is apparently flooded and all the schools in this area are closed due to the Souhegan River overrunning its banks), but I do when I can, and Russ is on here all the time. Also, if something is specifically addressed to Raef, we always let him know. Of course, whether or not he chooses to check it out or respond is . . . random . . .

Thanks guys!

Hey guys, fun show. Nicole, I do hope you get to play some Epic Duels at Pax East! Also, if you and Russ liked Sean of the Dead, the same crew did a "Buddy Cop Movie" that's just as funny called "Hot Fuzzz" which is worth the watch.

Tomb. Ah, Tomb, Tomb, Tomb. I do like this game, but it's horribly playtested and has some real problems - mostly unclear rules. However I've never played a game so many times that I thought had such flaws. It's like a movie that still manages to be really, really fun, even if the plot is full of holes.

I did notice some teeny problems with the review though! Russ said you can't both heal and redistribute cards - but you can. You area also actually able to re-attach spells amongst your spell casters once played, and even tactics can be redistributed. Traps ARE discarded after they are triggered, whether the heroes are successful or not ( they are claimed for XP if they succeed, discarded if not.) This is important actually, because otherwise the Black Sand Trap will catch a party in an infinite raid - fail -raid glitch loop if they don't have the dice to beat it. I was a little shocked to see some glitches creep their way into the review, and coming from Russ no less (*shockhorror*), but I think it can be easily forgiven because the rulebook is such a mess.

I find it funny that wives like this game so much! My wife loves it too. It's an ok game if you don't over-think it, but it's a very easy game to break with meta-gaming. A typical problem is that game breaks down in the early stages as it's waaaay more worthwhile to sit in the Inn turn after turn and recruit an unkillable super-party which breezes past the parties that went for the Early Raids.

It's still fun, but I think it's only fun if you sit down and just play without thinking. If you actually try to strategize, it gets too frustrating as as the incredibly random nature of the game will destroy the best laid plans, and whoever builds the longest usually wins. This may be different if you play with 6 players - I think the most I've played with is 4.

Thanks, guys!

Nathan, I think most of the points you make are actually the way we've been playing it (at my house, at least), and the problems with the review are probably more of communication than understanding.

I do think it's interesting you point out that the best laid plans often go wrong . . . but the game usually goes to the people who sit and buff and collect stuff the longest . . . which would be sort of a plan . . . of a type, anyway . . .

And thanks, DC. We try. We just hope we can keep it up!

Ya'll have a good day, now, ya heah?

I did kind of contradict myself, I suppose. I think that the reason the most-buffed party works the best though, is that it has the most equipment/characters to negate the terribly random nature of the game. That random nature is also part of the charm, though.

It seems like every group who plays this game plays it a different way! I think that for people who like to tinker with rules, it's a great game, because there is so much room for making house rules.

I'm probably just bitter because it's another game my wife trashes me at!

Thanks for the episode, guys. Already looking forward to 52.

Cheers,
