I remember way back in 3rd edition there was an index arteses (sp?) regarding mutations, purged space marine chapters, and those that are asid not to exist by the high lords of terra. I remember seeing some marines who were killed by the DH's because they had a mutation that made them burst into flames, another one had talons that grew from thier arms, the legion of the damned were in this category as well and there were rules for these armies too but only as allies; i think lamenters were also included and POSSIBLY flesh tearers? does ANYONE have any information?

That's in the Index Astartes I.Flame Falcons were the flame marines and Azure Claws were the ones with talons, but i'm not really sure about the latter.

Flesh tearers i think had a variation of black rage and i think the lamenters were a subchapter of blood angels that somehow purged black rage from thier ranks but have terrible luck in campaings to the point where they are almost nonexistant

That's some pretty interesting fluff, right there. The thought of the Black Rage being a necessary curse is really compelling. I love unexplained things like this.

i guess they are called cursed founding chapters? many of which have mythological like or well.... xenos like qualities and used to have rules where a unit or two could help a SM army and has special abilities; but since the imperium takes anythign extraordinary (to them) as heresey these loyal marines are basically to be purged on sight and could not be taken with WH or DH.

See, that's awesome. I wish I was into the hobby before 4th edition, it seemed like things were a lot more flavorful back then.

to be honest? it totally was, i wish i kept the old WD magasines i had. i don't want to buy the index arteres. that lex wiki has some descriptions of the cursed foundings and even a conversion of one of those talon chapters. its a black armored assault marine with no armor on arms but sything tallon conversion coming out of its forearms.

theres also a chapter with metal bone, the lamenters bad luck, the minotaurs crazy charging headstrong stuff, those fire dudes who are almost whiped out by the inquisition but seriously, fire that doesnt hurt them, constantly on fire? WIN! theres also a chapter with chitin as a part of thier armor.

um... my computer?

ahhhh. The old days of SM. I even made a squad of talons. I thin that was my first semi-serious conversion.

space marines are more fun with mutations, but thats what apocolypse is for. My chapter has the parih gene, making them a valuable asset to the grey knights, and the only reason GK's tolerates them.

There is a chapter that grows talons, they tend to hone them & coat them with adamantine to use as weapons. As for a whole chapter with the pariah gene I have to say that's a no-no as pariahs are extremely rare from lexicanum:

"They are generated by the 'Pariah Gene', a minute proportion of the population, perhaps one per planet per generation have this gene"

Also most humans who are found to have this gene are taken to become Culexus Assasins at a very young age (Pre-SM recruitment age). So not to say your chapter fluff couldn't happen, just that it is very unlikely they could be founded in that way and near-impossible to replace casualties. Not to mention there would be no librarians in the chapter at all.

If you wanted fun stuff you should looking to the 2nd edition rules. Back when the 2nd legion were the sole creators of the GK.
Thudguns were awesome field artilary, moll morters did funny things,
Haywire grenade would mince up a squad of any thing in power armour,
Hallucinogen grenades good for a giggle
and lets us not forget evey ones fav, the hand held Black hole in a box, the Vortex grenade.

Now those were the days of war. So many ways to kill each other

Ok, people. For almost all the old IA fluff, look at the following...

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Cursed_Founding

The chapters were the Fire Hawks (became LOTD), Black Dragons (blade crests), Flame Falcons (flame on!), Lamenters (cursed), Sons of Antaeus (metal bones) and Minotaurs....

Ah yes the 21st founding. I have done some great deal of research on these chapters. The Black Dragons are the ones with the talons that come from their forearms and even crests on their head. Back in the day the Black Dragons, their assault squads had rending. Heres their link too.

DNA strands with the gene could be extracted from a larger pool, concentrated, and refined, then finnally implanted in the geneseed, which could be copied, and manipulated.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Bravo Cheese, you made my day bro.

I know the pre-heresy deathguard had many mutagens that made them fairly "undesirable" for the Emperor and such.

But I think since this was back when the Imperium was cool they just shrugged and let em do their thing.

I've sold so many armies. :(
