I've heard a lot about the overpricing of GW and the cheapness of other miniture suppliers.
So who should i buy from. Who is out there that is decent in terms of cost, style etc.

This also includes buying terrain.

The usual suspects that are trotted out on these boards are:

www.maelstromgames.co.uk

www.waylandgames.co.uk

Those 2 are probably the best for UK/EU residents in terms of pricing and discount. I have used both and can recommend them.

Sorry to be obtuse but as with many things you quite often get what you pay for. So I would suggest that you buy whatever YOU like and don't conpromise your tastes by price. Now this might mean that you have a smaller collection than you might otherwise like but 500 points of stuff you like will be better than 1000pts of cack.

Its then just a case of finding where to buy it cheapest.

If you like GW stuff and want up to 20% off RRP then Maelstrom/Gifts for geeks/Wayland Games/Dark Sphere are the place you should start.

If you want alternative producers then these boards are filled with recommendations of other manufacturers.

edit - Then he saw the 6000+ points of army in the sig - Duh!

I'm not complaining about the prices. I just want to know what the alternative are. I want to expand to making terrain as well (necromunda) so is there any companies that do that?

Oh there's certainly a company that does Necromunda terrain but I can't recall what it's called, I'm sure someone will mention it in a moment.

As for other companies, I like Reaper, Heresy and Hasslefree among others, you just have to look around. Try the Miniatures Page index of companies.

I have heard a lot of good things about Pegasus stuff, does anyone have any links to sites which stock their stuff?

Also these guys so some reasonable terrain at good prices

http://www.amera.co.uk/

The one thing that I would say for GW is that they offer the complete package, whilst there may be other systems, minature companies, terrain makers, paint suppliers and so on, there are none to my mind which do the whole thing. There are companies which do some very characterful figures for small scale skirmish games but there are few who offer complete armies with vehicles and so on.

If you want some reliable companies which offer GW alternatives then here are some companies which I have used and been very happy with in the past.

I do find though that I keep coming back to GW stuff mainly because the sheer size of their ranges means there is always something new and interesting

TheWarstore stocks Pegasus stuff.

I definitely recommend the pegasus gothic building line.

A little 'bland' for some - but you can always bling them up somewhat with extras.

Somewhere in south-central England.

There is a massive number of alternatives to GW. All of history, fantasy, and science fiction is at your disposal.

Just look at The Miniatures Page.

http://theminiaturespage.com/

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
