Hey there guys,
I'm just getting started out in the world of painting miniatures and am loving every minute of it! I just moved in with a guy who has like every GW paint and tool! So I'm very fortunate. I wanted to register for Dakka because in the last 3 weeks I've been painting, this forum has been the greatest help ever in building my skills. The way you guys help each other out is just fantastic to see. So when I develop my newbie painting skillz, I want to help out too!

So against many peoples recommendations I've started out with a Sisters of Battle army. They're just too cool! (btw, I have no idea about how good they are in battle) My aim is to build a SOB army with Grey Knight allies, (I'm fairly certain this is legal, yet probably not effective)

So as an introduction to me and my painting I want to show you how my skills have come in the last 3 weeks (mainly thanks to you guys on Dakka!): Sorry for different lighting conditions, I thought day light was best (turns out not really)

That is a very difficult army to play and be effective with, but I must admit I've always wanted to do that army because they look so cool and their fluff is cool.

I think your painting is a good start, and a good level in which to start thinking about more advanced techniques and feedback.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

@Jabbakahut I'd really like to know of these "advanced techniques", what are they? Do you know of any tutorials that may help?

@Shadowbrand Lol yeah, it was a a big decision for me to put those pics up. But if you all know where I'm at then I can fit right in somewhere.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Ah man, I mean, begin anywhere. There are tutorials here on dakka (under articles) and of course there are all the threads on techniques and blogs (when you see something in a blog you like, feel free to ask the poster question about technique or tips, be sure you express that you enjoy their style!). Youtube has videos, and then there are books, lots of books. Some people don't like to learn from books, but I personally have a small library on modeling/painting techniques and tips.

As far as personally giving you tips, my painting is not where I excel. I can see your white has a brush stroke problem, thinner paints will solve that. I'm guessing that you're not priming your models? I can't really tell. I think one of the best tips for any beginner is to start thinning your paint. Especially if you're using GW. Multiple coats is important to understand, don't try to achieve perfect coverage in one go.

I think they look good as well.

It has very clear shading and high lights.
Even the white armor has nice distinctive lining and shading.

Thanks all again for the warm welcome/compliments/tips!

I got a Grey Knight Terminator in the works along with a Saint Celestine conversion. But something tells me I should post them somewhere else to get feedback? Where would this be?

@Jabba Ya I thin my paints all the time, but sometimes not enough... The models are primed white.
