Playing Trolls, my dudes get knocked down a lot. And I've found that a lot of opponents are eager to actually knock my models over and lay them down when this happens. I've looked, and there's nothing in the rules about this, and the base size rules would suggest to me that they are supposed to stay upright, with a counter or something to indicate knockdown.
I recently played a guy who was really "handsy" with my models. Like, if he was shooting one, he'd jab it with his finger. Or if he killed one, he'd remove it and put it to one side. And again with the knockdown, he went to knock them over. I had to ask him not to, as I was worred about the models breaking or the paintjob chipping.

Anyone else had this experience? I'm pretty sure it stems from playing GW skirmish games like Necromunda, where knocked down models are actually placed on their sides. But for Warmachine and Hordes, it makes no sense and is pretty likely to break some of the more dynamically posed warbeasts. And yet people still insist on doing it...
I think next time it happens I'm gonna point at the knockdown section and ask them where it says they can knock my actual models over.

We also just use a marker because otherwise paint can get damaged...

If my opponent would want to touch my models he would be asked to refrain from that. I work on my models hard enough to not let another person break or chip them...

I dont think you should knock the models over either, since you dont change facing when being knocked down and standing back up. Its impossible to track where the model is facing when its lying on its side.

It's also impossible to figure out it's actual position, since overhanging bits don't count in game.

With GW plastics I don't mind people touching my stuff, as they don't break easily. But some PP models break REALLY easily if mishandled.

Just tell them about the facing rules and how it's important not to physically knock
the models down. That's why we use tokens.

In Mk I, I think the rules said it was acceptable to either lay the model down or use a token. We always used tokens. I have played people who would magically gain an inch or so by placing a model on its side and then standing it back up in a different place.

Personally, I think it's a necessity to use tokens because placement is so important in the game.

If I were you I would just have a stack of knocked down tokens handy, and ask you oponent not to touch your models.

Someone manhandling my models like that would probably result in me being kicked out of that store for my reaction.
I would at the very least pick up then and there as i see that as one of the greatest disrespects in the hobby. I like to think I'm generally one of the more laid back and accepting gamers around but that sort of thing is in no way tolerable.
I suggest you show your opponents how it adversely affects the game as well as explain how it could damage your models and how disrespectful it is before your next game with each of them that have done this in the past.

+1, however I think I'd be justified to react as I would, don't think the guys at my club would look kindly on that either.

Seriously though, I'm no pro painter, i use around 3h per model, and they are decent painted. If someone would chip my paint off i'd be angry but wouldent be the end off the world.
However theres guys at the club that easily puts 10h per model, and they look amazing, and if someone would chip their paint off I really don't know how we'd react lol.

But all in all, we tend not to touch other peoples model unless granted permission by the owner, for obvious reasons

ps. if someone jabs your models with their fingers, start poking him in the eye

I find this equally annoying:

I played a guy that had decided he needed to elongate every spear-type weapon in his Khador army (IFP, Spriggin, etc.).

Ok that is cool i guess, but a little pre-planning as far as size/placement on model would have been nice:

Every time he tried to engage one of my models or move his models in close proximity to mine his giant f'ing spears would tip over my models, knock them about, and poke them, etc. Eventually after multiple rounds of this I said "look, if you can't move your models without those ridiculous spears beating the hell out of my models then I'm going to break them off"

He was perplexed over what I expected him to do?

Um, maybe not model 6" spears on your models?

Depending on how they're modeled, we just turn them around.

In most games i have played, a Knocked down model was shown with a counter on it. and as for your opponent touching your models, to me this is a big thing. Did he ask your permission to touch them? if not then i would have at first politely told him to not touch my models. if he persists then i would have not so politely told him to take his *censored* finger off my models.

Buy some think paper or thin cardboard. Divide it into many squares and put the letter F (fallen) or D (down) on each square. Then cut em out. Home made 'fall over' tokens.

The better choice is to use KD. Knocked Down, the term used in the game.

Or just get the tokens from the PP forums and print them.

I have a bag full of colored glass chits, I use this for all effects. I actually have a bunch of the GF9 tokens, but find that it is really time consuming to search out the exact token.

simple fix... boobytrap your models, pack them with thermite and light a fuse when you see the f*cker reaching for them. maybe thats a little OTT though

I use tokens because I've won and lost games by .5" so it's very important to not move the models around by laying them down and picking them up.

As for people touching my models-->they get one warning.

I think it is EXTREMELY disrespectful of your opponent to touch your models. I normally give one warning, after that I will pack up, i have put to much time and effort into my models to have someone break or chip one of them.

Where I play this isnt really an issue as we are a close knit group, and will ask before touching another persons units. "hey mind if I adjust him", or " Can you adjust him for me please".

If someone were to intentional knock one of my models over and break it, i might accidentally knock them over....
